The company is expanding beyond GPU cloud capacity with Forge, software aimed at AI development workflows. That could add a higher-margin business, but there is no disclosed Forge revenue target or quantified margin contribution, so it is not yet evidence of a solution to the interest bill.
What is CoreWeave’s $640 million headache?
CoreWeave reported $640 million in net interest expense for the three months ended June 30, 2026, up from $267 million in the same quarter of 2025. It also reported a $626 million GAAP net loss, compared with a $290 million loss a year earlier. These are quarterly figures, not annual costs. CoreWeave’s Aug. 11, 2026 results release provides the company’s figures.
The expense sits alongside rapid growth: quarterly revenue more than doubled year over year, from $1.212 billion to $2.575 billion. But revenue growth does not by itself show whether deployments are generating enough cash to cover financing costs and the investment needed to expand infrastructure.
Why does a fast-growing cloud company carry such a large bill?
CoreWeave builds and operates data-center capacity for AI workloads. That business requires substantial infrastructure investment, and the company’s cash-flow statement shows the scale of its purchases: property and equipment purchases were $14.117 billion in the six months ended June 30, 2026, versus $3.860 billion in the same period of 2025. The line includes capitalized internal-use software, so it should not be read as hardware-only spending. See the company’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Interest expense and infrastructure purchases are related to the capital demands of expansion, but they are different measures: the former is a quarterly financing cost, while the latter is a six-month cash-flow statement line. The figures show why software could be strategically appealing, but do not establish that Forge will reduce borrowing costs or fund future buildout.
What is CoreWeave Forge?
Announced at CoreWeave’s Fully Connected conference on Sept. 30, 2026, Forge extends the company’s pitch from supplying compute to supporting more of the AI development process. CoreWeave describes it as connecting the AI development loop. In practical terms, the strategic idea is to offer customers software and workflow capabilities alongside the GPU infrastructure their AI work runs on. The company’s Forge announcement describes the platform.

That expands CoreWeave’s role in a customer relationship: instead of competing only to provide computing capacity, it can seek to become part of the tools and processes used to develop AI systems. If customers adopt those tools, software could add revenue without requiring every incremental dollar to come from building more data-center capacity. That is a strategic rationale, not a demonstrated financial result.
Can Forge help with the interest bill?
Possibly, but the available reporting does not show that it has. CEO Michael Intrator told TheStreet, “It’s going to be accretive to margins.” TheStreet’s Oct. 6, 2026 report says he did not quantify the expected contribution. No Forge revenue, customer count, margin uplift, or sales target was provided in that report. TheStreet’s coverage therefore supports describing margin accretion as management’s expectation—not as a result already achieved.

Even a successful software business would not automatically eliminate a financing burden. To judge whether Forge changes the economics, investors and customers would need evidence of adoption, recognized revenue, margins, and the cash required to deliver the offering. The second-quarter results show the scale of interest expense and infrastructure investment; they do not yet isolate any Forge impact.
How strong is CoreWeave’s demand—and what does capacity mean?
CoreWeave reported about $104 billion in revenue backlog as of June 30, 2026, and said the figure excludes more than $25 billion of net new customer commitments added early in the third quarter. The backlog is not revenue already earned: it remains subject to delivery and service-availability requirements.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The company also reported 1.5 gigawatts of active power after nearly 500 megawatts of expansion, with approximately 3.7 gigawatts of total contracted power. Active power and contracted power describe different stages of capacity; neither means that a particular customer can receive a specific amount immediately at a desired location. Fortune reported Intrator’s characterization that “Our near-term capacity remains effectively sold out.” That is management’s description of near-term availability, not a guarantee that all contracted capacity is operational or immediately accessible. Fortune’s Aug. 11 report covers the statement.

Forge’s promise should be evaluated against reported outcomes rather than the breadth of its product description. Useful indicators include:
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Forge adoption and monetization: whether CoreWeave reports customers, revenue, or another measurable commercial result for the platform.
- Margins and cash economics: whether software contributes to reported margins and cash generation, alongside the costs of deployment and infrastructure expansion.
- GAAP performance: whether revenue growth translates into improved GAAP results, considered separately from supplemental non-GAAP measures. CoreWeave says non-GAAP measures are not substitutes for GAAP.
- Financing burden: how interest expense changes as the company grows and funds capacity.
- Deliverable capacity: whether active infrastructure and service availability keep pace with commitments. Backlog is not recognized revenue until services are delivered under the relevant terms.
CoreWeave’s release quotes Intrator saying the company reached an “important inflection point” as scale began translating into expanding operating leverage. That is the CEO’s characterization; the same release reported a $49 million GAAP operating loss for the quarter, so it should not be mistaken for GAAP operating profitability.
