Don’t remove the connector cover or otherwise alter the cable. Cooler Master withdrew that support recommendation and now directs owners who have a fit or compatibility problem with an included angled GPU cable to contact support about a complimentary 180-degree replacement. Confirm eligibility and that the replacement is made for your exact power-supply model before using it.
What went wrong with some Cooler Master angled GPU cables?
Cooler Master designed its 90-degree GPU power cables to reduce cable bending stress and make routing easier in tight cases. But the connector’s shape can conflict with the socket position or cooler layout on some graphics cards, preventing the cable from fitting properly. The reported problem concerns particular GPU and cable combinations; it is not evidence that every Cooler Master power supply or GPU is affected.
In October 2025, reports described a Cooler Master support recommendation to release clips and remove the connector’s outer cover to improve fit. Igor’s LAB reported that its testing found the modification did not solve the underlying clearance problem. Cooler Master later said: “We do not recommend users modify or alter the cable.” The company also said: “For any user experiencing compatibility issues, support will now provide a replacement vertical 12V-2×6 cable.” Those statements appeared in Cooler Master’s clarification reproduced by Igor’s LAB. The cover-removal suggestion was a withdrawn support recommendation, not an approved repair.
What should I do if the included 90° cable doesn’t fit my GPU?
- Do not force the connection or modify the cable. If the connector does not clear the card or cannot be fully seated as designed, stop and contact Cooler Master support.
- Ask about the complimentary 180-degree replacement. Cooler Master’s current FAQ tells customers with fit or compatibility issues involving an included angled cable to contact support, which will arrange a complimentary 180-degree 12V-2×6 cable.
- Give support your exact equipment details. Provide the power-supply model, GPU model, and a description of the fit issue. Ask support to confirm eligibility and that the replacement cable is intended for that exact PSU.
- Wait for a confirmed solution before powering the system. Do not substitute a modular cable based only on its plug shape. Compatibility across PSU models or brands is not established by the sources cited here.
Cooler Master’s Japanese customer notice dated November 14, 2025, also acknowledged compatibility reports involving bundled 90-degree 12V-2×6 or 12VHPWR cables with certain GPUs and described a free 180-degree replacement for eligible products. See the notice. As eligibility and fulfillment may vary, confirm the offer and next steps directly with Cooler Master.

- Secure Soldered Connections: Reinforced soldered joints help maintain a stable electrical connection and reduce stress caused by normal cable positioning. Fully insert both ends and confirm that no visible gap remains.
- RTX 40/50 Series Compatibility: Designed as a 16-pin 12V-2x6 and 12VHPWR extension for compatible RTX 40 and RTX 50 Series graphics cards. Connects to an existing compatible PSU cable and is not intended for direct modular PSU connection.
Why are 12V-2×6 and 12VHPWR mentioned together?
Cooler Master describes 12V-2×6 as the successor to the ATX 3.0-era 12VHPWR connector while remaining compatible with it. The company says the 12V-2×6 design extends power pins by 0.25 mm and shortens signal pins by 1.5 mm, changes intended to improve contact and make full insertion easier. Cooler Master identifies 12V-2×6 with H++ and 12VHPWR with H+. It also says mixing H+ and H++ parts does not deliver all the tighter-connection benefits it attributes to an all-H++ connection. Its explanation is available in the ATX 3.1 guide.
Those design changes do not make a poor fit or incomplete seating harmless. A connector must still clear the GPU and be inserted correctly. Cooler Master’s guide also reports company comparisons for its described angled connector design: a 45% lower impedance change rate, 12% higher average insertion and withdrawal force, and 5°C lower temperatures. These are manufacturer-reported comparisons, not independent measurements of every affected cable or system, and they do not establish that a cable with a clearance problem is safe to use.

- TYPE-A GPU CONNECTOR - Type-A (AKA Standard Type) GPU power cables are designed to more cleanly interface with graphics card ports that have the lock/fastener located underneath the connector when installed
- 600MM CABLE - A generous 600mm end-to-end cable length provides excellent support for mid- and full-tower cases with a PSU shroud; Maximum supported direct power from PSU to GPU: 600W
Would the GPU Shield Adapter Cable fix the fit problem?
No. Cooler Master’s GPU Shield Adapter Cable is a separate inline monitoring and protection accessory, not a replacement for the angled cable and not a solution to a connector that cannot clear a particular GPU. The company describes the 200 mm product as having individual-pin abnormal-current monitoring, visual and audible alerts, and automatic power reduction during severe electrical abnormalities. Those documented functions do not resolve a physical clearance mismatch or guarantee against connector damage. See the product specifications.
