Continua is an AI agent you add as a participant to an existing group chat. It helps the whole conversation research options, compare travel logistics, coordinate plans and retrieve current information without someone leaving the chat to search and paste links. Its Google Maps integration can use travel times, map data and members’ locations to suggest meeting points, while planned reminders and updates are intended to keep a group moving after the initial discussion.
What Continua is—and what it is not
Continua is designed as a shared group-chat participant rather than a private, one-to-one chatbot. Everyone in the conversation can ask questions and see the same answers, so the context is available to the whole group. Continua describes its role as helping with “planning, coordination, and information retrieval” directly in the chat.
In practical terms, you add Continua as a contact or participant in a supported group conversation and then address it in the thread. It is not a human organizer, a calendar owner or a voting authority. It can suggest choices, gather information and follow up, but people still have to reply, agree and carry out the plan.
How Continua helps a group plan
Shared research in the existing conversation
Instead of one person searching the web, checking several listings and copying results into a chat, the group can ask Continua to find and compare options in place. Its technical description says the service combines retrieval-augmented generation with web search: retrieved material is supplied alongside a question so responses can use fresher or domain-specific information than a model’s static knowledge alone.

That approach is useful for questions whose answers change, such as whether a restaurant is open, what a venue currently lists on its website or how long a trip may take. It does not make every answer automatically correct; important bookings, prices and policies should still be checked at the source before anyone pays or travels.
Coordination rather than just suggestions
Continua’s stated direction includes memory, proactive behavior and action-taking. The company describes possible uses such as checking when concert tickets go on sale, sending periodic project updates and maintaining a trip-planning document with refreshed restaurant information. These are follow-up tasks, not merely a single answer to a prompt.
Reminders and ongoing updates
A group can use Continua for reminders—for example, asking it to check a ticket-release date or provide a recurring project update. The available product descriptions do not specify a consumer pricing plan, reminder limits, retention period or guaranteed delivery schedule, so those details should be confirmed in the current service before relying on it for a deadline.

What the Google Maps integration adds
Continua announced its Google Maps integration on January 15, 2026. The company says recommendations can account for total walking, driving or public-transit distance and can use members’ real-time locations to suggest a meeting point.

An update dated March 2, 2026 says the integration can return current places, travel times, ratings, websites and opening hours. The same update says the team was piloting polls in which members could vote by reaction or message. “Piloting” means availability and behavior may vary by account, region or rollout stage.

Map context makes Continua more useful for logistics than a chatbot that only produces general suggestions. It still cannot guarantee that a listing, travel time or opening hour has not changed since the data was retrieved.
How to add Continua to a group chat
Continua is presented as a contact that joins the group conversation, not as a separate app window that everyone must open for each question. The exact invitation flow depends on the messaging platform and Continua’s current availability. In a supported chat, the general process is:

Can Continua decide where the group should go?
It can analyze the criteria the group gives it and recommend a destination or meeting point. With Maps context, that analysis can include travel mode, total distance, current places, ratings, websites and opening hours. A useful prompt states the decision rule explicitly—for example, “Find three dinner places that minimize public-transit time for everyone, are open at 7 p.m. and have vegetarian options.”
“Decide” remains a human responsibility. Continua cannot know unspoken preferences, guarantee that every member will accept the result or reserve a table unless a separately documented action is available. Treat its output as a ranked shortlist, then have the group select and confirm one option.
Can it make people follow through?
No. Continua can keep a decision visible, ask for votes and send planned reminders, but it cannot force a member to answer, pay, attend or honor an agreement. Tom’s Guide described the tool as practical for group logistics while noting this social limitation. The most effective workflow is to turn a suggestion into a specific question with a deadline: name the options, ask each person to vote, and state what happens if someone does not respond.
Privacy, security and data limits
Continua says messages sent to and from the service are encrypted. That is a product claim, not evidence of an independent security certification. The available information does not establish encryption details, retention duration, deletion controls, account-level permissions or how real-time location data is stored.

What is known about usage and performance
Continua reports that more than 60,000 people were using it in a March 2026 product update, with an average group size of four and about 50 messages per group per day. The company also says more than 80% of messages were delivered in under two seconds and that its viral coefficient exceeded one for six or more consecutive weeks. These are company-reported figures; the available material provides no independent audit.
Continua also announced an $8 million 2025 seed round involving GV and BVP and said it had processed more than seven million messages during its capped initial release. Those figures describe the company’s reported financing and activity, not a guarantee of response quality or availability for every user.
Who should use Continua?
- Good fit: friends choosing a venue, travelers comparing meeting points, families coordinating errands, or project groups that need shared research and recurring check-ins.
- Use caution: groups handling sensitive location information, confidential work, high-stakes travel or decisions where an incorrect opening hour or travel time would cause serious harm.
- Not a replacement for: a booking service, a calendar with confirmed attendance, a transit authority, or a person responsible for final approval.
Bottom line
Continua’s distinguishing idea is putting an AI researcher and coordinator inside the group thread everyone already uses. Its web retrieval, Google Maps context and planned reminders can reduce the copy-and-paste work of organizing people. The boundary is equally important: Continua can surface current options and ask for decisions, but only the group can agree, book and show up.
