Neither provider is proven to be the more reliable choice for a 24/7 YouTube stream. DigitalOcean has a clearly relevant CPU-Optimized Droplet family and published transfer allowances with overage pricing; Contabo documents a VPS/VDS port-speed range and traffic terms governed by fair use. Choose by the workload and exact plan, not by advertised port speed or a headline price. If you want an always-on YouTube stream without managing a VPS, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free.

What matters most for a 24/7 YouTube VPS

A continuous stream has two separate resource demands: the server must handle the video workload, and the connection must send the stream to YouTube consistently. A VPS that only forwards already-encoded video has a different CPU requirement from one that encodes or transcodes continuously. In either case, calculate outbound data from the actual bitrate and runtime, then check the selected plan’s transfer allowance, overage terms, and expected sustained throughput.

Neither provider’s cited documentation establishes head-to-head uptime, dropped-frame performance, route quality, or continuous encoding performance for a particular configuration. Those outcomes need to be tested with your own workload; plan specifications alone cannot establish which host will keep your stream healthier.

Contabo vs DigitalOcean at a glance

Decision point DigitalOcean Contabo What it means for your stream
Compute CPU-Optimized Droplets use dedicated vCPUs and are described for CPU-bound work including video and live streaming. See DigitalOcean pricing. The cited Contabo material does not establish a directly comparable streaming-oriented plan specification. Check whether you encode/transcode on the server or send a pre-encoded feed, then size the specific plan for that job.
Outbound transfer Each Droplet plan has an allowance; usage is pooled across a team, inbound transfer is free, and extra outbound transfer costs $0.01/GiB. Unused transfer does not roll over. See transfer terms. Contabo says there is no default bandwidth limit on VPS/VDS/dedicated servers, subject to its fair-use policy and possible throttling for exceptionally high or disruptive use. See Contabo’s traffic policy. Estimate monthly data and check both the exact plan allowance and the policy that applies to sustained usage.
Network specification The cited materials give plan-specific transfer allowances, not an end-to-end streaming stability guarantee. Contabo lists VPS/VDS port speeds from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps; this is a product-family range, not a promise that a chosen VPS sustains a particular bitrate continuously. Do not treat a port-speed figure or transfer allowance as a test of stream stability.
Price comparison A listed 2-vCPU, 4-GiB CPU-Optimized Droplet is $42/month and includes 4,000 GiB of transfer on DigitalOcean’s pricing page accessed in 2026. This is a published list price, not a guaranteed checkout quote. A comparable Contabo plan price is not established here. Compare current checkout costs, region and taxes, plan suitability, and likely transfer overages; the available figures do not show which provider is cheaper for every stream.
Reliability No head-to-head 24/7 YouTube uptime result is established. No head-to-head 24/7 YouTube uptime result is established. Test representative streaming conditions and build monitoring and recovery into your setup.

How to estimate outbound data

Use the encoder’s target bitrate as a starting point. YouTube’s recommendations depend on codec and frame rate: its guidance lists 5 Mbps for 1080p30 H.264 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60 H.264; for 1080p60 it lists 12 Mbps for AV1 or H.265. Check the YouTube encoder settings guidance for the resolution, frame rate, and codec you plan to send. These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not guarantees about either VPS provider’s network.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

For a rough estimate, multiply the stream bitrate by the number of seconds streamed, then convert bits to bytes. At 5 Mbps, a continuous 30-day stream sends about 1,620,000 megabits, or roughly 202,500 decimal megabytes (about 203 GB) before audio, protocol overhead, reconnects, and other outbound services. At 17 Mbps, the same calculation is about 689 GB. Actual usage varies with the configured bitrate and operating time; include audio and overhead in your planning rather than treating these examples as exact invoices.

DigitalOcean’s outbound transfer is pooled at team level, so other Droplets can use part of the allowance. Excess outbound transfer is billed at $0.01/GiB, and accrued allowance does not roll over. Recheck the current plan allowance, account pool, and pricing before committing. Contabo’s no-default-bandwidth-limit statement remains subject to fair use; it is not a blanket promise of unlimited sustained throughput.

Which provider should you choose?

Choose DigitalOcean when dedicated CPU is the key requirement

DigitalOcean’s CPU-Optimized family is the more directly documented fit when the VPS will do CPU-bound work such as encoding or transcoding, and its published transfer and overage terms make data-cost estimates more explicit. The listed 2-vCPU, 4-GiB example costs $42/month with 4,000 GiB of transfer on the pricing page accessed in 2026; verify the current listing and your actual checkout total before relying on it.

Consider Contabo when its traffic policy and exact plan fit

Contabo’s published 100 Mbps–1 Gbps VPS/VDS port range and no-default-bandwidth-limit policy may look attractive for continuous outbound video, but both figures require qualification: the traffic policy is subject to fair use, and the port range does not establish sustained throughput for a specific VPS. Confirm the exact plan’s terms and test a representative stream before treating it as suitable.

Do not select either host on an assumed reliability advantage

The available provider information does not establish comparative uptime, support, region latency, or stream stability. Check the region you need, run a sustained test using your intended settings, and monitor YouTube’s stream health. Plan how your encoder will reconnect or restart if the process or ingest connection fails.

Configure the stream for a meaningful test

  1. Choose the workload. Decide whether the VPS will encode/transcode or merely forward pre-encoded video. Continuous encoding increases CPU demand; the amount depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so do not size by vCPU count alone.
  2. Set encoder output. Choose resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate together. Use YouTube’s current table for the selected combination and test the upload bitrate as YouTube recommends.
  3. Use YouTube’s ingest details. In YouTube’s live setup, configure the encoder with the server URL and stream key shown for the stream. Keep the key private. YouTube recommends RTMPS, its secure extension to RTMP; use it where your encoder supports it.
  4. Validate sustained operation. Test the actual VPS, region, stream settings, and route for a representative period. Watch encoder load, outbound traffic, and YouTube stream health rather than assuming a published port speed predicts performance.
  5. Prepare recovery. Monitor the encoder and ingest status, and decide how the process will restart or reconnect after a failure. The provider figures cited here do not establish automatic stream recovery.

Copyright and channel considerations

A VPS provider does not grant rights to the video or audio you broadcast. Use material you own or are licensed to stream, and review YouTube’s rules for copyrighted material and live content before leaving a channel running continuously. A technically stable stream can still be interrupted or restricted for rights or policy reasons. YouTube’s live encoder guidance covers stream setup; consult YouTube’s current policy materials for the content you plan to use.
