CompTIA introduced two entry-level courses in 2024: a+ Network for networking fundamentals and a+ Cyber for cybersecurity foundations. They were presented as starting points for people exploring an IT career, not as certifications or proven routes to employment. Current availability, prices, and course content have not been confirmed.
What are CompTIA a+ Network and a+ Cyber?
CompTIA announced the two courses as introductory learning tracks for people with no professional IT experience or those considering a move into technology. Network World reported the launch on December 4, 2024. The courses were described as foundations for further certification training, including Network+ and Security+.
That distinction matters: the report says a+ Network can help prepare learners for the Network+ exam; it does not say that completing the course awards Network+ certification. Nor does the available reporting establish that either course leads to a job, a higher salary, or faster career progression.
How the two courses differ
| Course | Main emphasis reported at launch | How it fits the next step |
|---|---|---|
| a+ Network | Network clients and network types, enterprise application support, network operations and troubleshooting, Linux application-server fundamentals, scripting, and data management. | Networking fundamentals; described as potentially helpful preparation for the Network+ exam. |
| a+ Cyber | Cybersecurity support roles, Windows administration, secure network clients, enterprise campus and application fundamentals, cybersecurity controls, Linux application-server fundamentals, scripting, and data management. | Introductory cybersecurity foundations, including securing devices and home networks. |
Both reported curricula include Linux, scripting, and data-management foundations. The reported Windows administration emphasis appears in a+ Cyber; the launch report does not list it among a+ Network’s subjects.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Which course should a newcomer consider?
Choose a+ Network if networking is the goal
The reported topics make a+ Network the more direct fit for someone who wants to understand network operations, troubleshoot network problems, or work toward Network+ exam preparation. Treat it as a learning course, not a substitute for checking the current Network+ exam objectives or confirming that the course matches them.
Choose a+ Cyber if security is the goal
a+ Cyber is the more directly relevant track for a learner interested in cybersecurity support, security controls, and protecting endpoints or a home network. Its reported Windows administration and secure-client topics add a device-management angle to the security fundamentals.

What the launch announcement does—and does not—show
CompTIA chief product officer Thomas Reilly said the a+ Series courses would help learners understand what they need to know to pursue a tech career, and that a course “can accelerate your career progression regardless of where you’re starting from.” Network World quoted this as CompTIA’s characterization. The report does not supply independent employment, salary, certification pass-rate, or course-effectiveness data to substantiate those outcomes.
The available account is Network World’s December 4, 2024 launch report, which links to CompTIA’s announcement and course pages: “CompTIA courts IT newcomers with ‘on-ramp’ network, security courses.” It does not confirm present-day availability, prices, or revised course content.
