Claude Code wrote a substantial part of Jose Quevedo’s portfolio, but Quevedo says the decisions that shaped it remained his: what to build, what to check, and which suggested changes to reject. His September 21, 2026 account is a single-project case study—not a controlled test of AI coding tools—but it offers a practical lesson: treat generated code as a proposal, then review and measure it before shipping.
What the project involved
Quevedo reports rebuilding his portfolio with TypeScript, React 19, Next.js 16 using the App Router, Tailwind CSS 4, and Framer Motion. He says he deployed it on Vercel with his own domain. These are the stack and deployment details in his account, not an independent audit of the live site. Read Quevedo’s account on DEV Community.
His central distinction is between producing code and owning the outcome. An AI assistant can help implement a portfolio, but the developer still has to define its purpose, decide what matters to visitors, and judge whether a change improves the result.

Decisions he made before adding more
Keep the design focused
Quevedo chose a clean design without extra widgets, reasoning that simplicity comes across as more professional. That is a design judgment from his project, not a universal rule; the useful principle is to make each element earn its place rather than adding features merely because they are easy to generate.
#1 Best Overall
- Includes 24 permanently bound, top-loading sleeves that display up to 48 letter-size pages.
- Designed for standard 8.5" × 11" documents: Lightweight presentation book fits US letter-size papers.
- Clear front cover and spine inserts let you add labels or title pages for easy identification.
- Durable plastic covers with non-glare polypropylene sleeves help protect documents from dirt and moisture for everyday presentation and storage.
- Holds standard 8.5" × 11" documents.
Audit the foundations first
Before expanding the site, he asked for a review of SEO, accessibility, and performance, then worked through issues by priority. This put basic usability and discoverability ahead of feature work.
Make accessibility specific
His reported accessibility changes included adding a pause control to auto-rotating carousels, marking hidden slides inert, and making touch targets large enough for phone use. These are concrete examples of reviewing how an interface behaves, not just how it looks.
Rank #2
- HIGH-QUALITY MATERIALS: Black front and back covers made of sturdy polypropylene and 12-pocket/24-pages made of clear non-glare polypropylene to provide long-lasting, spill-proof, stain-resistant durability paper report covers can't provide.
- DISTINCTIVE DETAILING: Rounded corners, sturdy weight front and back cover, and a full-page front exterior clear pocket to complement your polished presentation.
- ACCOMMODATING: Each pocket holds back-to-back sheets for times when a book-style presentation is preferred to a front page only display.
- ADDENDUM POCKET: Back cover includes a slanted clear poly interior pocket to hold extra documentation or materials
- CLASSIC LOOK: Black 0.375" spine, front/back covers with heat-welded seams for a polished lay-flat look to complement your work
Handle SEO page by page
He says he added canonical and social metadata for each page, a sitemap, and a single h1 in the hero, then verified the site in Google Search Console. These are the SEO steps he reports taking; the account does not independently establish the current state of the deployed site.

Why he measured before keeping an optimization
Quevedo tried a CSS-only change intended to make the hero load faster. According to his account, it did not produce a meaningful Lighthouse improvement, so he reverted it. The point is not that CSS changes cannot help performance; it is that an optimization should be judged by its measured effect rather than by how plausible it sounds.

As he puts it, “The AI can suggest a change. Only measuring tells you if it worked.” A practical loop follows from that advice: establish a baseline, make one meaningful change, compare results under comparable conditions, and keep the change only if it improves the experience without causing a regression elsewhere.
What Lighthouse scores he reported
In his September 21, 2026 article, Quevedo reported these production Lighthouse scores:
Rank #4
- 40-Pocket Large Capacity: Features 40 bound top-loading clear sheet protectors displaying 80 pages of 8.5 x11 inch letter size or smaller artwork, documents, or photos in a portfolio measuring 12 7/8 inches long x 9 11/16 inches wide
- Customizable Spine Insert: Includes reversible spine insert allowing you to label and identify your watercolors, sketches, scrapbook pages, art pieces, sheet music, certificates, and other projects for easy organization
- Clear Transparency: High-quality polypropylene sheet protectors offer complete transparency for easy viewing and lie flat when open, freeing your hands for convenient presentation and review
- Durable: Made from durable, lightweight polypropylene that is archival quality, acid-free, non-stick, non-glare, and water-proof with thickened sturdy cover that resists cracking and protects contents
- Versatile Multi-Function Use: Ideal for long-term storage and display of paintings, photos, artwork, drawings, and stencils, making it a great tool for students, teachers, office workers, musicians, and painters
| Device category | Performance | Accessibility | Best practices | SEO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Desktop | 99 | 100 | 100 | 100 |
| Mobile | 89 | 100 | 100 | 100 |
These are the author’s reported scores, not results independently reproduced here. His article does not state the test conditions, so the numbers should be read as a snapshot of one project rather than a promise about what Claude Code—or any particular stack—will deliver.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat this case study suggests for your own portfolio
Quevedo’s advice is to set goals and constraints before prompting, ask for audits as well as implementation, read every change before shipping, measure before and after, and resist unnecessary complexity. Applied to a portfolio, that means deciding what a visitor should understand or do, then reviewing the site against a few practical questions:
Best Value
- HIGH-QUALITY MATERIALS: Black front and back covers made of sturdy polypropylene and 24-pocket/48-pages made of clear non-glare polypropylene to provide long-lasting, spill-proof, stain-resistant durability paper report covers can't provide.
- DISTINCTIVE DETAILING: Rounded corners, sturdy weight front and back cover, and a full-page front exterior clear pocket to complement your polished presentation.

- ADDENDUM POCKET: Back cover includes a slanted clear poly interior pocket to hold extra documentation or materials
- CLASSIC LOOK: Black 0.75" spine, front/back covers with heat-welded seams for a polished lay-flat look to complement your work
- Does the design make the work and its purpose clear?
- Can people use interactive features with the controls available to them?
- Are page metadata and site navigation basics in place?
- Did a performance change measurably help under comparable tests?
- Have you reviewed the generated code and accepted the change deliberately?
Quevedo’s case does not establish that AI-generated code is inherently better or worse than human-written code. It illustrates a narrower, more useful point: the tool can contribute implementation, while responsibility for priorities, review, and evidence stays with the person building the site.
