Cisco and LeapXpert announced an integration that lets employees message external contacts on WhatsApp from within Webex, using Leap Work to add business controls and conversation capture. WhatsApp is the first channel named for the collaboration; the announcement says more channels are planned, but does not give dates or confirm that other Leap Work channels are already available in Webex.
What the Webex-WhatsApp integration does
Announced on October 5, 2026, the integration connects Webex with LeapXpert’s Leap Work service so employees can communicate with external contacts on WhatsApp without switching out of Webex. The companies frame it as a way to extend Webex beyond internal collaboration to governed client messaging. The announcement says employees use their existing Webex credentials on desktop or mobile. LeapXpert’s announcement, distributed via PR Newswire, names WhatsApp as the initial channel and says additional channels will follow, without specifying a schedule.
The Webex App Hub listing for Leap Work describes the service as paid and lists WhatsApp, SMS, WeChat, LINE and Signal capabilities. That broader list describes Leap Work, not necessarily the channels currently integrated into Webex: the collaboration announcement specifically confirms WhatsApp as the first channel.
What controls and features are described
The companies say messages are checked by data loss prevention (DLP) in both directions and that LeapXpert captures conversations to enable archiving. The App Hub listing also describes 1:1 and group messaging, WhatsApp voice calls, text, image and file sharing, outbound DLP, information barriers, antivirus scanning for file transfers and exportable audit trails. These are vendor and product-listing descriptions; they do not independently establish how controls perform in a particular deployment or certify that an organization meets a specific compliance obligation.

Who needs it and what is required
Organizations considering the integration need both a Leap Work account and a Webex license. Since the App Hub identifies Leap Work as a paid service, buyers should confirm the applicable subscription and commercial terms with the vendors. The reviewed product information does not state pricing, geographic availability, detailed retention settings or implementation requirements.
The integration targets a common operational tension: clients may prefer consumer messaging apps, while employees need business conversations handled through managed systems. In CRN’s coverage, LeapXpert co-founder and Chief Business Officer Avi Pardo described a disconnect between internal enterprise collaboration and solutions for interacting with external parties. WWT vice president of digital experiences Joe Berger said regulated customers have faced a gap between client preferences and compliance requirements. Those comments explain the business rationale; they are stakeholder views, not independent evidence of product effectiveness.

What regulated organizations should verify
Routing WhatsApp conversations through an enterprise product may support governance, but the integration alone does not demonstrate compliance with a particular law, regulation or retention policy. Before deployment, an organization should confirm:
- Which messaging channels are actually available inside Webex in its deployment, rather than assuming all Leap Work channels are included.
- How DLP rules and information barriers are configured, including what happens to messages that trigger a policy.
- How conversation capture connects to the organization’s archive, what records are retained, and how retention periods and deletion are controlled.
- Whether the required desktop and mobile workflows, file scanning and audit exports meet internal operating and security requirements.
- Availability by geography, implementation details and complete commercial terms, which are not specified in the reviewed announcement and listing.
How to evaluate the fit
The useful comparison is not simply “Webex versus WhatsApp.” It is whether the proposed workflow gives employees access to the channels clients use while providing the controls, records and administrative configuration the organization requires. Ask the vendors to demonstrate the exact channel support, DLP behavior, archive export and mobile and desktop experience for the intended deployment. Do not treat the companies’ reach figures as proof of adoption: LeapXpert’s announcement says Webex serves 95% of Fortune 500 companies and roughly 300,000 organizations worldwide, but those are company-provided claims, not independently verified usage figures.
