Cisco completed its acquisition of Montreal-based network assurance company Accedian on September 29, 2023. The deal added Accedian’s service-provider monitoring technology to Cisco’s portfolio; it was a business-to-business network assurance acquisition, not a consumer hardware purchase. The price was not disclosed.
When did Cisco acquire Accedian?
Cisco announced its intent to acquire Accedian on June 21, 2023, and completed the transaction on September 29, 2023. Cisco’s acquisition announcement confirms the completion date. Seller Bridge Growth Partners confirmed the completed sale on October 2, 2023.
What did Accedian do?
Accedian was a privately held company based in Montreal, Quebec, focused on virtualized network assurance and monitoring network and user experience across applications, clouds, and networks. Its products were aimed at communications service providers and other operators managing complex network infrastructure, rather than ordinary home-network users.
Bridge Growth Partners described Accedian Skylight as providing end-to-end visibility across multi-layer, multi-cloud, and multi-vendor networks, with cloud-native analytics for services built on 5G, SD-WAN, and edge technologies. That is the seller’s description of the product.

Why did Cisco buy Accedian?
Cisco said Accedian’s service-assurance technology would complement its network assurance and analytics portfolio, including Cisco ThousandEyes capabilities. The stated goal was to help communications service providers and webscalers gain real-time data and actionable insight into network performance.
Cisco also highlighted Accedian’s “microsecond level” sensors, which it said enable fine-grained visibility for operators. This is Cisco’s description of the capability, not an independently validated performance benchmark. The strategic fit is the addition of detailed sensor-based measurement and assurance analytics for operators managing carrier infrastructure and services.

How much did Cisco pay for Accedian?
The financial terms were not disclosed. Bridge Growth Partners stated this in its October 2, 2023 sale announcement. No confirmed purchase price is available from that announcement, so rumored or unsourced estimates should not be treated as established deal value.
What happened to Accedian Skylight after the acquisition?
Accedian’s product branding transitioned to Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance. A Cisco employee account described the transition and said the products entered Cisco’s Global Price List and buying programs.

Cisco’s support site now identifies the product family as Cisco Crosswork Assurance, formerly Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance (Accedian Skylight). The page marks the series “Available” and lists product documentation, including installation guides for 1G and 10G sensor modules. It also lists a March 5, 2026 end-of-sale/end-of-life notice specifically for Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor Capture; that notice does not establish that all Crosswork Assurance products have reached end of sale or end of life.
What should existing Accedian customers do?
At the time of the September 2023 completion, Cisco said existing Accedian customers should continue using their existing support process for installed products until Cisco notified them of any changes. Because that guidance dates from the acquisition close, customers should check Cisco’s current support material for present instructions and product-specific lifecycle notices.

Canada’s Investment Canada Act notification index for July 2023 lists Cisco Systems, Inc. in an acquisition notification and names Accedian Networks Inc. and Accedian Canada Software Inc., with entities in Quebec and Ontario. The index describes activities involving network-monitoring, performance and optimization equipment and software, as well as software development.
