Google describes it as a high-severity modem elevation-of-privilege vulnerability and says it may be under limited, targeted exploitation. Pixel owners should check their security patch level and install 2026-09-05 or later when available.
What is the Pixel vulnerability CISA warned about?
CVE-2026-58704 is listed by Google as a high-severity elevation-of-privilege (EoP) vulnerability in the modem. CISA added it to the KEV Catalog on September 16, 2026, based on evidence of active exploitation. CISA’s KEV announcement identifies the catalog addition; Google’s September 2026 Pixel Update Bulletin provides the technical classification.
Google’s bulletin says: “There are indications that CVE-2026-58704 may be under limited, targeted exploitation.” That is a qualified warning. The public sources do not identify victims or an attacker, or describe the exploit chain. They also do not establish whether an attack requires user interaction or can be carried out remotely; the modem classification alone does not answer those questions.
Is my Pixel affected?
The public bulletin does not provide a CVE-specific list of affected Pixel models. It addresses supported Google devices and states the patch level that fixes the bulletin’s issues, but that is not a model-by-model confirmation that every Pixel is vulnerable. If your Pixel is supported, check whether it has the specified patch rather than assuming its model is or is not affected.

Google’s general update-support periods are separate from this CVE’s affected-device scope. Its support page says Pixel 8 and later receive seven years of OS and security updates; Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and Pixel Fold families receive five years from first availability on the Google Store in the U.S.; and Pixel 5a and earlier no longer receive Android version or security updates. These general periods do not establish which models are affected by CVE-2026-58704. Google’s Pixel update support page lists the periods.
What update fixes the vulnerability?
Google says Pixel security patch level 2026-09-05 or later addresses all issues in the September 2026 Pixel bulletin. The bulletin says supported Google devices will receive an update to that patch level and encourages customers to accept it. The stated patch threshold applies to the bulletin’s issues; it is not a published CVE-specific model list.

How to check and update your Pixel
- Open Settings on your Pixel.
- Tap System, then Software update.
- Follow the steps shown on screen to check for and install an available update.
- In Settings, check your Android version and security update level. Confirm the security patch level is 2026-09-05 or later.
Google says update availability can depend on the device and carrier, and an update may take a few weeks to arrive. If your phone is below the threshold and no update is offered yet, check again later; the rollout timing is not identical for every device or carrier.
Does the CISA warning mean your phone was hacked?
No. The CISA catalog entry and Google’s exploitation note indicate exploitation has been reported, but neither establishes that a particular owner’s device was compromised. The public information does not disclose a victim count or provide a way to determine from the warning alone whether an individual phone was targeted.

What CISA’s warning means for organizations
CISA says Binding Operational Directive 26-04 sets requirements for Federal Civilian Executive Branch (FCEB) agencies. Separately, it encourages all organizations to use risk-based vulnerability management and prioritize vulnerabilities in the KEV Catalog. The federal directive is not a general requirement for consumer Pixel owners; individual owners should follow Google’s update guidance.
