For a cheerful April Fools’ Day in a Chromebook classroom, try a quick paper-based joke or word search, then use Google Classroom to share the activity or its reveal. The activity ideas below come from a teacher-facing Prodigy activity sheet; they are not Chromebook-specific or reported classroom trial results. A Chromebook is optional, and any online element should be brief, reversible, and allowed by your school.
Choose an activity that fits your class
The Prodigy activity sheet includes four ideas: a brown-E reveal, a classroom word search, a shrinking-font reading assignment, and a brief teacher switch. It does not give preparation times or compare outcomes, so use the framework below as a practical planning aid rather than a measured ranking.

Try the brown-E reveal
Tell students that brownies are coming, then reveal brown construction-paper letter E shapes instead. The activity sheet suggests following up with actual brownies to soften the joke. Treat food as optional: check allergies and school food rules, and have a non-food alternative ready.
Share a classroom word search
The activity sheet’s classroom-themed word search includes terms such as equation, fraction, math, subtract, divide, addition, homework, pencil, teacher, and backpack. You can print it or share a prompt through a screen; the puzzle itself does not require a Chromebook.

Keep the tiny-font joke brief
The sheet suggests giving students a reading assignment in unusually tiny type before revealing the joke and providing the real assignment. If you use this idea, make the reveal quick and give students readable material right away. Do not ask students to strain to read small text or leave the joke in place as their actual work.
Make a teacher switch predictable and short
The activity sheet also suggests two teachers briefly entering each other’s classes and acting as if it is a normal day. Arrange it only with a colleague who is in on the plan. Keep the change short, avoid making students think they are in trouble, and restore the usual class routine promptly.

Use Google Classroom to distribute the activity
If your school already uses Google Classroom, its Classwork page supports assignments, questions, and quiz assignments, and teachers can organize posts under topics. That is enough to share a harmless prompt, worksheet, or reveal; none of these ideas requires a special app. See Google’s Classroom guide for teachers for the available Classwork tools.
Google’s Chromebook App Hub offers a place to discover apps and classroom activity ideas, while calling attention to app transparency and district policy. It does not establish that a particular app is needed for an April Fools’ activity. Avoid adding an app just to make a simple joke feel more digital.

Check school-device rules before adding an online twist
Schools may restrict websites, apps, or services on school-managed Chromebooks, and access to some services may need to be enabled by the school or teacher. Check the activity on the actual school account and device before class; Google explains these limits in its guide to learning on a school-managed Chromebook.
Keep any screen-based addition harmless and easy to undo. Do not change device settings, interfere with student accounts, block access to schoolwork, or create a false security or discipline concern. Google describes Chromebooks for schools as offering accessibility and security features and centralized management options, but that does not mean every feature is enabled on every student device; see Chromebooks for schools.
