Chrome Summit 2024 made me more hopeful that Samsung could eventually offer a higher-spec Galaxy Chromebook Plus—not because Google or Samsung announced one, but because the event showed how seriously ChromeOS is being used in enterprise settings. That is a reason for optimism, not proof of a product plan or consumer demand.
Why the summit changed my outlook
Chrome Unboxed’s October 25, 2024 summit recap describes an enterprise-focused event featuring ChromeOS business workflows and different deployment settings. It quotes Naveen Viswanatha, identified as ChromeOS Product Lead for Enterprise, saying: “We’re at this inflection point where businesses have clearly moved over. We have notable, large-sized organizations that are all web, meaning not mostly web, but all web.” That is an attributed statement from the event recap, not an independently verified market statistic.
The connection to a more capable Galaxy Chromebook Plus is an inference: if organizations increasingly use ChromeOS for demanding, all-web work, vendors may have an incentive to serve users who want more headroom than an entry-level configuration provides. The summit itself does not establish that businesses want this Samsung model, that consumer demand is growing, or that a higher-spec version is planned.
What the 2024 Galaxy Chromebook Plus offered
In its October 1, 2024 US announcement, Google described the consumer Galaxy Chromebook Plus with an Intel Core 3 100U processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a 15.6-inch OLED screen. Google also listed a weight of 2.58 pounds (1.17kg), thickness of 11.8mm and battery life of up to 13 hours. It called the Quick Insert key a first for Chromebook Plus devices. The announcement gave launch starting prices of $699 in the US and £649 in the UK; these are historical launch prices, not current offers.

Samsung’s current US product page lists an FHD AMOLED display at 1920 × 1080, 8GB LPDDR5X memory, 256GB UFS storage and the same up-to-13-hour battery claim. Its support specifications identify the processor platform as RPL-U Refresh Intel Core 3, give a 400-nit display brightness and Wi-Fi 6E, and list the 11.8mm thickness and 1.17kg weight. Samsung lists two USB-C ports, USB-A, HDMI, microSD and a 3.5mm headphone/mic jack. These are US-market manufacturer specifications; configurations can vary by market. Samsung says actual battery life varies with environment, features and apps, so the figure is an estimate rather than a guaranteed runtime.
Why “higher-spec” is a meaningful distinction
Google’s October 2, 2023 Chromebook Plus launch post set a baseline of at least 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, alongside an Intel Core i3 12th Gen or newer or AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series or newer processor, a Full HD IPS-or-better display, and a 1080p-or-better webcam with temporal noise reduction. The Galaxy Chromebook Plus’s 8GB of memory meets that floor; it is not an above-baseline memory configuration. Its 256GB storage exceeds the minimum, but a 16GB option would provide a clearer step up for users who want more memory headroom.

That difference matters more than the “Plus” label alone. A premium-looking OLED laptop with the category-minimum memory can be attractive for everyday browsing and office work, while users juggling heavier web apps, many tabs or demanding workflows may reasonably want a higher-memory configuration. This is a case for offering more choice, not a claim that the 8GB model cannot handle those tasks.
The higher-tier model reported in the UK
A Chrome Unboxed report dated October 26, 2024 said a Core 5-120U Galaxy Chromebook Plus model was available in the UK at that time. That is useful evidence that a higher processor tier was reported in one market, but it should not be read as confirmation of present-day availability elsewhere.

The same article speculated that enterprise demand might bring broader availability, and floated a Core 5 configuration with 16GB RAM and perhaps 512GB storage. Those memory and storage figures were a proposed possibility, not a verified released configuration or roadmap. Current regional variants and availability have not been established here.

What would make a stronger version worthwhile
A higher-spec Galaxy Chromebook Plus would be most persuasive if it made the trade-off simple: more memory for sustained multitasking and a faster processor tier for heavier work, while retaining the large AMOLED screen and useful port selection. A 16GB/512GB configuration is an appealing example of what such an option could look like, but it remains hypothetical based on the available reporting. A smaller model has also appeared as a question in a Chromebook community search—“Are there any rumors or rumblings of a 14in Galaxy Plus Chromebook?”—but that anecdotal query is not evidence of an announced 14-inch device.

For now, the honest takeaway is narrower: the summit supplied a reason to hope that ChromeOS hardware will keep serving a wider range of business workflows, and a UK report showed a Core 5 variant had been reported in 2024. Neither point establishes Samsung’s future plans. Buyers comparing listings should check the exact model, country, processor, memory and storage rather than assume every Galaxy Chromebook Plus has the same configuration.
