As of Android Authority’s October 6, 2026 report, Chrome on Googlebook OS does not support switching between multiple browser profiles. That means you cannot use the browser’s built-in profile controls to keep separate work and personal Chrome identities on one Googlebook. Chromebook’s multi-person sign-in is a different, operating-system-level feature—not proof that Googlebook OS has the same browser capability.
What is missing from Chrome on Googlebook OS?
Chrome profiles let people keep browser identities separate, including profile-specific browsing data and settings. Android Authority reported that Chrome on Googlebook OS does not currently offer multiple profiles. The report’s reviewers, Hadlee Simons and Paul Jones, observed the limitation on ASUS Googlebook 14 review units: the profile control led to account settings rather than profile switching, and the menu had no option to switch profiles. Android Authority’s October 6, 2026 report quotes Googler Mishaal Rahman: “Specifically for Chrome on Googlebook OS, it does not currently support multiple profiles, but I’ll pass this feature request on to the team!”
This status is specific to Chrome on Googlebook OS. The cited report does not establish why the feature is absent, or when it might arrive.
Why Chromebook multi-user sign-in is not the same thing
Google documents a Chromebook feature that lets multiple people sign in to the device and switch accounts without signing out. Users can also move windows between accounts. This is ChromeOS-level multi-person sign-in, not a description of multiple profiles within one Chrome browser installation. Some settings are shared between Chromebook users, while bookmarks and profile pictures are user-specific. Google’s documented sign-in flow allows up to five users, subject to workplace or school restrictions. See Google’s instructions for signing in multiple people at the same time.

What the iPhone and iPad comparison does—and does not—show
Google’s iPhone and iPad Chrome help describes syncing browsing history and tabs to a Google Account when those categories are enabled in Chrome settings. It also explains how saved information can be accessed across devices signed in to the same account. That documents account sync, not the full details of Chrome profile switching on iOS. The distinction matters: syncing data across devices is not the same capability as keeping multiple browser profiles separate on one device. Google’s iPhone and iPad sync instructions cover the former.
What Google says about Googlebook OS and ChromeOS differences
Google describes Googlebook OS as based on the Android technology stack, with desktop foundations from ChromeOS. Its extension documentation also lists compatibility differences: native messaging is not yet available, ChromeOS-only APIs are unsupported, and keyboard shortcuts follow Linux rules. These examples show that ChromeOS and Googlebook OS capabilities can differ, but Google’s documentation does not identify any of them as the reason multiple Chrome profiles are missing. Can Chrome Beta or Canary act as a second profile?
Android Authority describes using separate Chrome release channels, such as Beta or Canary, with different accounts as a workaround. This is a reported alternative, not built-in profile switching in stable Chrome. The report does not establish that the channels provide the same profile separation or management experience, so treat the approach as a compromise rather than an equivalent feature.

Rahman said he would pass the feature request to the team, but the cited sources provide no release date or commitment to add multiple-profile support to Chrome on Googlebook OS.
