Chinese fire services have demonstrated quadruped robots fitted to fire hoses, but the documented Chengdu example was an emergency drill—not proof that a robot dog extinguished a live fire. The sources also describe separate reconnaissance robots in Qingdao and Changsha, while the water-cannon figures often associated with these systems come from Unitree’s specifications for a particular configuration.
What the Chengdu drill showed—and what it did not
At an emergency exercise in Chengdu High-Tech Zone on June 20, 2025, a firefighting robot dog made by Sichuan Embodied Humanoid Robotics Technology Co., Ltd. was shown with an interface connected to a fire hose. China National Radio reported that the dog could carry out on-site fire suppression. That establishes a hose-connected firefighting configuration was demonstrated in a drill; it does not establish that the robot tackled a real fire or that the pictured unit put one out. China National Radio’s report, published June 21, 2025, also describes a separate police robot equipped with cameras, lidar, thermal sensing and a gas detector.
The exercise included a high-rise water-cannon demonstration outside a building, but that cannon was mounted on a drone, not the robot dog. The available reporting does not identify the precise video or incident implied by the headline, so it cannot confirm that the clip shows this Chengdu drill or even the same robot model.
How a fire hose can be used with a robot dog
In the Chengdu report, the dog is described as having an interface connected to a fire hose. This points to a hose-fed arrangement: water is supplied through the hose, rather than the robot carrying all the water it sprays. The source does not give the hose diameter, water pressure, water source, or details of the connection, so those should not be inferred from the images or from specifications for other products.

- Playful Puppy Companion: Meet the Ruko 18011 robot dog—a playful companion that walks, spins, wags its tail, dances, and even lifts its leg to “pee.” Just a gentle touch on its head, and it responds with cheerful sounds and silly moves, bringing endless giggles without the mess of a real pet.
- LED Faces That Delight: With 70 glowing LED lights, this puppy shows more than 30 animated facial expressions. From wide happy eyes to goofy faces, kids can instantly see its moods, making storytelling, pretend play, and silly roleplay games more magical.
- Learn Through Programming: Instead of just watching, kids become the “trainer.” With the programming mode, they can design up to 50 custom moves—like a dance routine or a parade of tricks. It’s a fun, hands-on way to spark creativity, problem-solving, and early STEM skills.
- Control Near or Far: Whether kids are racing it across the living room or guiding it in the backyard, they’re always in charge. The 2.4GHz remote works from up to 98 feet away, while simple hand gestures let them direct their pup up close—so play never gets boring.
- Safe Fun in Anywhere: This clever pup knows when something’s in the way. Thanks to obstacle-avoidance sensors, it smoothly avoids walls and furniture. Perfect for small apartments, bedrooms, or any indoor play space where kids can enjoy worry-free fun.
Water delivery is only one possible role. A quadruped can also carry sensors and send video or other readings to responders, allowing them to inspect a hazardous space from a distance. A reconnaissance robot and a hose-connected suppression robot may have different equipment; reports about one should not be treated as specifications for the other.
What the reports say about Qingdao and Changsha
Local equipment reports describe additional quadruped deployments, but not as the same system shown in Chengdu. A government-hosted report credited to China National Radio says two quadrupeds were added to the Qingdao Fire and Rescue Support Team. It lists 360-degree cameras, gas sensing, dual-light thermal imaging and remote control, and describes tests in garages, stairwells and simulated collapse scenes. A Qingdao officer said the robots were still being tested. These are reported equipment and test details, not independent performance validation. The government-hosted report does not establish that the Qingdao units had the Chengdu hose module.

The same report says Changsha received a Jueying X30 quadruped for reconnaissance, mapping and gas and thermal sensing. It attributes a −20°C to 55°C operating range and a top speed of 5 m/s to that robot. These are details reported for Changsha’s X30, not evidence about the Chengdu firefighting dog. Unitree’s own fire-rescue page separately says two B2 quadrupeds were added to Qingdao’s support team and lists a 360-degree camera, dual-light platform, gas sensor and industrial remote controller. The overlapping Qingdao accounts describe equipment, not a controlled comparison or performance study. Unitree’s fire-rescue page is the manufacturer’s description.
Unitree’s water-cannon specifications are configuration-specific
Unitree describes modular industrial fire-rescue robot configurations that include water-cannon and air-blower robots. For its described water-cannon configuration, the company states a 5–85° pitch range, a flow rate of 40 L/s and a range of 60 m. It also describes water or foam use and a high-temperature drencher system. These are manufacturer-stated specifications, not independent test results, and they should not be assigned to the Chengdu dog, the Qingdao B2 units or every robot dog used by Chinese fire services without evidence that it is the same configuration.

Unitree says certain inspection, water-cannon and air-blower robots are sold only to countries and regions that accept specified conditions. The page does not make every configuration universally available. Anyone assessing a purchase would need to verify the exact model, current specifications, geographic availability and applicable sales conditions with the manufacturer.
What robot dogs can contribute to emergency response
For reconnaissance, a remotely controlled quadruped can carry cameras and sensors into places that may be unsafe for a person to enter first, such as smoke-filled interiors, garages or unstable structures. The Qingdao report describes the units being tested in several such settings, while the Changsha account emphasizes sending images from inside buildings. These reports illustrate intended uses; they do not measure how reliably the robots find victims, withstand heat or improve rescue outcomes.

A hose-connected unit adds the possibility of delivering water while operators remain farther from the hazard. That capability depends on the equipment and water supply, and the sources do not establish how effective the Chengdu setup is under live-fire conditions. No cited source provides a controlled trial, lives-saved figure or other independent effectiveness measure for these robots.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Drills and deployments are not evidence of reduced fires
China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration reports, attributing the figures to China Green Times, that China had 292 forest fires in 2024, 10.98% fewer than in 2023, and three grassland fires, 80% fewer than in 2023. The figures describe national fire counts; they do not show that robot dogs caused the decline. The administration has also reported forest-fire robot-dog training in Hangzhou, which is evidence of training activity, not a measured reduction in fire risk or losses. The National Forestry and Grassland Administration report gives the broader context but does not connect those counts to robot use.
