China’s RX1H, a two-seat electric helicopter developed by a team led by Shenyang Aerospace University’s Liaoning General Aviation Research Institute, made its reported first flight on September 6, 2025. The institute said it hovered, turned 360 degrees, and moved forward, backward, and laterally. That is an early flight milestone—not evidence that the aircraft is certified, in production, or carrying passengers.
What is the RX1H?
The RX1H is a two-seat, battery-electric helicopter prototype. Its project lead, Shenyang Aerospace University’s Liaoning General Aviation Research Institute, reported that the aircraft completed its first flight at Faku Caihu Airport in Shenyang on September 6, 2025. The institute’s announcement is the primary account of the milestone; it is a developer report, not an independent flight-test assessment.
The institute named China Helicopter Design and Research Institute, Changhe Aircraft Industries, Beijing Institute of Technology, Harbin Aircraft Industry Group, and the CAAC Shenyang Aircraft Airworthiness Certification Center as project collaborators. It said the joint development effort lasted four years and addressed more than ten key technologies, including battery integration, electric drive systems, lightweight structures, and multidisciplinary design optimization. Those descriptions are the project team’s claims; the announcement does not provide underlying test data.
What happened on the first flight?
According to the institute, the RX1H performed a hover, a 360-degree turn, and forward, backward, and lateral maneuvers during the September 6, 2025 flight. The reported maneuvers show that the aircraft flew under its own power in an initial demonstration. They do not establish how it performs over longer flights, in varied weather, or with a passenger aboard.
#1 Best Overall
- Experience the Fascinating Lights and Demo Mode: The flying aircraft has brilliant lights that can change into 7 attractive colors, providing an eye-pleasing visual display. Children find this vibrant color diversity to be especially captivating. Under the demo mode, the helicopter performs auto-rotation or circle fly, providing an extra level of excitement and engagement. It's an excellent indoor activity for you and your kids to make priceless memories.
- Enjoy the Ease of Use: This radio controlled helicopter performs a stable hover with its an Upgraded Gyro system. Release your control, and it will hover in position, patiently awaiting your next command. The controls are simple to use, you can effortlessly make it ascend/descend, move forward/backward, and turn left/right. Besides, different skill levels can be accommodated by the customizable Speed settings; and functions like the one-key take-off/land button and trimmer button make it easy.
- Experience Great Durability: With a single modular battery, you can enjoy 15-17 minutes of flight time; two batteries doubles your joy to 30-34 minutes. The helicopter makes low battery alart when it is losing power. In collisions or crashes, the helicopter's sturdy PVC body, and landing gears work as great buffer lowering the possibility of damage. The Control Board, gears, and other delicate components are further protected from external impacts by the Alloy Structure. NOTE:The indicator light is OFF under charging and remains ON when fully charged.
- Safety Features: The rechargeable modular batteries are built with cutting-edge charging safety against over-charge,over-current,and low voltage scenarios. Simply control it from any angle or location inside your home without worrying about losing signal because it uses 2.4Ghz frequency, which has a long transmission distance and great anti-interference.When using several 2.4Ghz RC toys, there is no interference. Additionally, the propellers rotate at a reasonable speed, protect your home's decor.
- Unlock Educational Opportunities for Kids: The RC helicopter offers more than just fun; it enhances children's creativity, problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness. Even better, it might spark a passion for engineering or aviation that could lead to future employment prospects or financial aid. Children can learn valuable skills while having fun and learning via the thrill of helicopter flying.
The institute said the team would continue optimizing the aircraft and work toward commercial operations. Its announcement does not establish that RX1H has received airworthiness certification, entered production, or begun passenger service.
How does RX1H fit into China’s electric-aircraft work?
A separate 2020 electric-helicopter demonstrator
China’s National Development and Reform Commission reported that a manned electric-helicopter research demonstrator at Shenyang Aerospace University made a research flight on July 11, 2020. The institute’s team profile also refers to a domestic manned electric-helicopter first flight that year. This is historical context, not an earlier flight by RX1H: the 2020 demonstrator and the RX1H are separate aircraft and milestones. The government report is available from the National Development and Reform Commission.

The 2026 DF3000 hybrid eVTOL
Another Chinese aircraft story concerns Tsinghua University’s role in technology for the DF3000 “Youlong,” a separate 3-ton-class hybrid eVTOL. Tsinghua reported that it made a hybrid-mode first flight in May 2026. The university describes its energy architecture as distributed electric propulsion combined with series-hybrid generation. Unlike RX1H, it is a hybrid eVTOL, not the two-seat battery-electric helicopter discussed here. See Tsinghua University’s report.
What technical challenges matter for an electric helicopter?
Electric aircraft must balance stored energy, weight, control, safety, and noise. A 2024 review in Acta Aeronautica et Astronautica Sinica identifies lithium-ion batteries as the main energy source for current and prospective eVTOL aircraft, while describing battery materials, structural integration, and battery management as continuing challenges. Those are sector-wide issues, not RX1H-specific test findings. The review is available at Acta Aeronautica et Astronautica Sinica.

Energy and flight control
Battery energy density constrains how much energy an aircraft can carry for a given mass. Integrating a battery into the airframe also involves structural and thermal considerations, while the battery-management system must monitor and control the pack. The review further points to flight-control complexity, fault reconstruction, and collaborative control as development challenges for eVTOLs. These observations explain the engineering landscape; they do not reveal the RX1H’s battery capacity, control architecture, or failure-handling performance.
Noise and safety
Rotor and rotor-wing interaction noise is prominent in electric aircraft, according to the 2024 review. It notes that lower rotor tip speed and greater rotor solidity can reduce noise, but the cited RX1H announcement gives no aircraft-specific noise measurements. The review also says that, where flight-test data are absent, system-based methods are the main approach to safety design. A first flight alone therefore cannot answer questions about noise exposure, reliability, or operational safety.

Which RX1H specifications are public?
The cited project announcement identifies RX1H as a two-seat electric helicopter and describes its reported first-flight maneuvers. It does not state range, endurance, payload, battery capacity, noise level, or cost. Those figures should not be inferred from other electric aircraft, whose configurations and missions may differ.
For a meaningful comparison with another electric aircraft, the useful questions include whether it is a conventional helicopter, multirotor, or tiltrotor; whether it is battery-electric or hybrid; what mission and payload it is designed for; its substantiated range and endurance; its acoustic performance; how its controls handle faults; and what certification stage it has reached. Comparable RX1H figures for those measures are not established in the project announcement.
