The $149/year Chatr plan with 30GB was a launch offer reported in October 2024, not the annual plan Chatr currently lists. The 30GB was for the full year—not each month—and “unlimited data” meant data continued at reduced speeds after the high-speed allowance ran out. As of October 8, 2026, Chatr’s official annual page lists $159 for 40GB over 365 days.
What Chatr’s $149/year offer included
MobileSyrup reported on October 17, 2024 that Chatr had introduced a prepaid annual plan for $149 with 30GB of data for the annual service period. The offer also included unlimited Canada-wide calling and unlimited text, picture, and video messaging to Canadian, U.S., and international numbers, subject to premium-message exclusions. The launch report also mentioned voicemail. MobileSyrup’s October 2024 report and iPhone in Canada’s launch coverage describe the offer.
Dividing $149 by 12 gives about $12.42 per month as an average cost, but customers paid for an annual plan; that arithmetic does not make the plan monthly or replenish the 30GB allowance each month.
Was the 30GB available every month?
No. The 30GB allowance covered the annual term. It was not 30GB per month, so it should not be compared directly with a monthly plan’s data allowance without accounting for the different service periods.

What “unlimited data” meant
The historical offer allowed data use to continue after the 30GB high-speed allowance was used, but at reduced speeds. “Unlimited” therefore did not mean unlimited high-speed data. Chatr’s current annual-plan page likewise describes reduced-speed data after the included allowance is exhausted, but does not state the reduced speed; no specific speed should be assumed. The page also says customers may buy a data add-on. Chatr’s official annual prepaid plans page lists the current terms.
