For most people who use ChatGPT regularly but seldom hit limits, Plus is the sensible starting point at $20 per month. Consider Pro if frequent interruptions or a need for Pro-only access affects valuable work enough to justify a much higher recurring cost. Pro currently has $100, $200 and $500 monthly tiers, with different allowances; only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast. Check the plan details shown for your account before subscribing because prices, access and limits can change.

What Plus includes
OpenAI lists Plus at $20 per month, billed monthly. Its Help Center describes priority access during high-traffic periods, higher model limits than Free, access to reasoning options available to the account, faster responses, voice conversations, image generation, file upload and analysis, and Deep Research where available. Model availability and limits can change during rollouts and may vary with system conditions. OpenAI says annual billing is not currently supported for Plus.
Plus is a fit when its tools cover your work and its limits rarely interrupt it. A high feature count alone is not a reason to pay for Pro if you do not need its particular models, allowances or speed option.

What the Pro tiers add—and what changes between them
OpenAI currently lists three Pro tiers at $100, $200 and $500 per month. All are substantially more expensive than Plus, so compare the specific allowance and feature you expect to use rather than treating “Pro” as a single plan.
Pro 100
Pro 100 may suit someone who often needs Pro-model access or a higher usage allowance but does not need Ultrafast. Confirm the allowance currently shown for your account; OpenAI notes limits depend on plan and model.

Pro 200
OpenAI says new Pro 200 subscriptions have a lower included usage allowance than the previously offered allowance. Qualifying existing subscribers can retain the prior allowance through October 29, 2026, provided their subscription stays active. That transitional treatment does not change the plan or add Ultrafast. Check your subscription status and the current plan terms before relying on the prior allowance.
Pro 500
OpenAI announced Pro 500 on September 29, 2026. It has the highest included usage of the listed Pro tiers and is the only Pro tier with Ultrafast. Pay for it only if those specific advantages matter enough to your work to justify $500 every month.

Pro does not mean unlimited
Usage limits vary by plan and model. OpenAI’s model-limit guidance says reaching a Pro-model limit can make that model temporarily unavailable until its allowance resets; you may use another available model or wait. The guidance specifically cautions that Pro does not include unlimited use of GPT-6 Pro. A higher allowance can reduce interruptions, but it is not a promise of unrestricted access.
How to decide whether Pro is worth the added cost
- Track actual interruptions. For a representative period, note when a limit stops or delays a task, which model or feature you were using, and whether waiting or switching models was acceptable.
- Identify the requirement. Decide whether the issue is needing a Pro model, more usage, Codex, Deep Research, or Pro 500’s Ultrafast. Do not upgrade simply because a feature sounds useful if it does not solve a real constraint.
- Estimate work value. Compare the time saved or value enabled by more access with the recurring price difference. This is a personal decision framework, not an OpenAI-published break-even threshold; OpenAI does not specify a universal amount of usage at which Pro pays off.
- Verify your exact tier and allowance. Review the offer and limits shown for your account before purchase, especially for Pro 200, where new and qualifying existing subscriptions have different allowance terms.
- Stay with Plus if its tools meet your needs and limits seldom interrupt work.
- Consider Pro 100 if Pro-model access or a higher allowance is regularly useful, but Ultrafast is not.
- Consider Pro 200 only after checking the allowance applicable to your subscription and eligibility for the transitional terms.
- Consider Pro 500 when its highest included usage and Ultrafast are specifically valuable to you.
Does a ChatGPT subscription cover API use?
No. OpenAI says API usage is separate and billed independently. Do not choose Plus or Pro to cover API work; evaluate API costs separately.

Check current terms before subscribing
Plan prices, allowances, model access, account eligibility and rollouts can change. OpenAI’s current plan pages provide the published terms, but your account’s offer is the practical reference for what you can buy and use. Recheck the Plus details, Pro tier details and release notes before deciding.
