USB-C rechargeable 1.5V lithium AA batteries are available, but a 1.5V label alone does not establish that a security camera supports them. Blink, for example, says its cameras are compatible only with 1.5V lithium non-rechargeable AA batteries. Because no camera model or verified test results are specified here, there is no basis to claim these rechargeable cells work reliably or last a particular time in your camera.
Why a 1.5V USB-C rechargeable AA may not be compatible
A camera’s battery requirement is more specific than its size and nominal voltage. The cell’s output under load, current limits, protection circuitry, terminal style, dimensions, and charging requirements can all affect whether it operates as intended. A rechargeable battery can also have behavior different from the non-rechargeable type named in a camera maker’s instructions.
Check the manual or support page for your exact camera model before installing a different battery type. Treat the manufacturer’s written requirement as the deciding factor; a battery’s nominal 1.5V output is not proof of approval.
What Blink says about rechargeable AA batteries
Blink’s support page states: “Note: Blink cameras are only compatible with size AA 1.5 volt Lithium non-rechargeable batteries.” Blink recommends Energizer Lithium 1.5V non-rechargeable batteries for optimal performance and says results may vary with other battery types. For Blink Outdoor 4, Blink lists two AA 1.5V lithium non-rechargeable batteries as the main power source. The listed outdoor operating range is -4°F to 113°F (-20°C to 45°C); that is a camera specification, not a guarantee that every battery performs equally throughout that range. Consult the Outdoor 4 technical specifications for the model’s details.
What USB-C rechargeable AA product specifications do—and do not—tell you
XTAR lists an AA 1.5V LR 3000mAh USB-C lithium rechargeable model. Its published specifications include nominal 1.5V output, 3000mAh capacity, a maximum discharge current of 2.5A, protected construction, button-top terminals, and approximate dimensions of 14.3 by 50.3 mm. XTAR states a cycle life above 1200. These are manufacturer-listed figures, not independently verified camera runtime or reliability results. See XTAR’s product page.

Current limits vary by model, and published figures may describe different operating conditions. XTAR’s FAQ says the protected 1.5V AA batteries it discusses have a 2A maximum continuous discharge current and that protection may stop output above roughly 2–2.5A. It cautions that devices with high instantaneous or continuous current demand may not work with those batteries. Do not apply that FAQ’s limits to every USB-C rechargeable AA product. Keeppower lists a different Type-C 1.5V AA, the P1450TC, with 2500mAh typical capacity, 2300mAh minimum capacity, 2A maximum continuous discharge current, built-in protection, and more than 500 charge-discharge cycles. Those are Keeppower’s claims, not independent test results. The ratings should not be treated as directly comparable runtime measurements. See Keeppower’s P1450TC specifications.

Charging and physical checks before choosing a cell
Follow the battery maker’s charging instructions rather than assuming any USB-C source or cable is appropriate. XTAR specifies a 4.75–5.5V charging input and 0.35±0.05A charging current for its listed model. It advises using a 5V adapter, warns against split USB cables that charge a battery and phone together because a fast-charge source could trigger a higher voltage, and says to use compatible XTAR chargers designed for 1.5V lithium cells.
- Confirm the camera’s required chemistry and rechargeability. A specification for non-rechargeable lithium AA cells should not be interpreted as approval of rechargeable cells.
- Check current limits and protection behavior. A protection circuit that cuts output under demand may cause a device to stop working.
- Check dimensions and terminal style. Verify that the cell fits the compartment and makes contact as intended.
- Use the specified charging method. Match the battery’s input requirements and charger guidance.
- Look for comparable runtime evidence. Manufacturer capacity and cycle-life figures do not establish camera runtime; meaningful comparisons require the same camera, settings, and conditions.
Battery-life claims and wired alternatives
Blink describes battery life of up to two years under default settings and says actual life varies with settings, usage, and environmental conditions. That figure is not a test of USB-C rechargeable AA batteries. Increased activity or different settings can change battery life, so do not use Blink’s estimate as a prediction for a different battery type or setup.

For supported models, Blink documents USB power accessories and specifies a 5V/1A adapter for the described setup. Its instructions warn against rechargeable batteries in the listed indoor-use configuration. Outdoor use may require a weather-resistant accessory; removing a port cover can affect weather resistance. Check the instructions for the exact camera and accessory before connecting external power.
