Yes. On Windows, select or focus the item whose context menu you want, then press Shift+F10. On a Chromebook, you can enable a keyboard-and-touchpad right-click shortcut in Settings. The exact option depends on your operating system and the item or control in use.
Open a context menu on Windows with Shift+F10
- Select the item or move keyboard focus to it.
- Press Shift+F10. Microsoft lists this shortcut for displaying the context menu of the selected item in its Windows keyboard shortcuts.
The shortcut applies to the focused or selected item, not automatically to whatever happens to be beneath the mouse pointer. If F10 controls a hardware or media function on your laptop, check the laptop maker’s instructions for how to send F10; there is no single Fn-key combination established for all laptops.
Use keyboard-and-touchpad right-click on a Chromebook
Google documents two combinations for right-clicking with the keyboard and touchpad: Search/Launcher + click or Alt + click. To enable the option:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Device > Touchpad.
- Under Use keyboard and touchpad to right-click, choose the combination you want.
Google notes that this setting is Off by default for new users. See Google’s Chromebook touchpad instructions for the setting and right-click options.

In Chromium, use Shift+F10 on supported controls
Chromium’s keyboard-access guidance says that controls with context menus can be activated with either the Context Menu key or Shift+F10. This is documented for controls that expose context menus; it does not guarantee identical behavior for every webpage element or application. See Chromium’s keyboard-access guidance.
Chromium also documents Alt or F10 for focusing the browser’s menu button or page menu. That moves focus to a browser menu; it is not the same as opening the selected page item’s context menu.

Context menu versus menu bar
The Menu key and Shift+F10 are used for a context menu associated with a selected or focused item. A menu bar is different: Microsoft lists F10 to activate the menu bar in the active app. Use the shortcut that matches the menu you want, rather than treating F10 and Shift+F10 as interchangeable.
Do you need an external keyboard?
No—not if the shortcut available on your device does what you need. An external keyboard with a dedicated Context Menu key is an optional physical alternative; Chromium recognizes that key, but compatibility depends on the operating system and application. No particular keyboard model or listing is verified here.

What if the shortcut does not work?
- Check focus: select the item or keyboard-focus the control before pressing Shift+F10.
- Check the function-key layer: if F10 triggers a laptop hardware function, consult the manufacturer’s instructions for sending F10.
- Check the app and target: context-menu support varies. Chromium’s guidance covers controls that expose a context menu, not every page element.
- On a Chromebook: verify that the keyboard-and-touchpad right-click setting is enabled and use the combination selected in Touchpad settings.
These documented instructions cover Windows, Chromebook settings, and Chromium behavior. They do not establish a universal shortcut for every macOS or Linux setup or every application; check the relevant system or app documentation for those cases.
