Yes, but it depends on the exact apps and games you use. Snapdragon X Series laptops run Windows on Arm, where an application may run natively, through emulation, or not at all. Video editing and development can work well when the required software, plug-ins, drivers, and dependencies are supported. Gaming is less predictable: verify each title rather than treating a compatibility listing as a performance guarantee.
How Windows on Arm affects compatibility
A Snapdragon X Series laptop is a Windows on Arm PC. Some software is built for ARM64 and runs natively; other x86 or x64 applications run through Windows 11’s Prism emulation. Software that depends on a particular driver, plug-in, or low-level system component may have additional compatibility requirements.
Qualcomm says, “Most Windows apps will work via emulation without modification.” That is a useful starting point, not a guarantee for every app or workload. Qualcomm also recommends porting important components for optimal performance and full compatibility. Qualcomm’s Windows on Snapdragon developer resources describe emulation, native ARM64 builds, and hybrid development approaches.
Can you edit video on a Snapdragon laptop?
Supported versions of major Adobe video and audio applications can run natively on Snapdragon X Series systems. Adobe’s Windows ARM support page, last updated June 17, 2026, says Premiere, After Effects, Audition, and Media Encoder version 26.0 provide native Windows ARM64 support. Support does not mean every feature or professional workflow is available, so check the specific formats, plug-ins, and hardware you need.

Adobe’s stated minimums and media extensions
For those version 26.0 applications, Adobe lists Windows 11 version 24H2, OS build 26100.2033; 16 GB of RAM; and Qualcomm Adreno GPU driver 31.0.121.1 as minimum requirements. HEIC/HEIF import requires the HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions. Hardware-accelerated HEVC decoding also requires the HEVC Video Extensions. These are Adobe’s published requirements, not a guarantee of smooth performance for every project.
Check the features your workflow depends on
- Premiere: Adobe lists no MKV import, several unsupported named RAW formats, no AVID EUCON control-surface support, and no compatibility with plug-ins compiled for Windows on Intel.
- After Effects: Adobe notes feature differences, including missing MKV import and hardware-accelerated export for selected formats. Intel-built plug-ins are not compatible.
- Audition: Intel-based ASIO drivers are unsupported. Adobe also lists format and plug-in gaps.
- Media Encoder: Adobe lists missing MKV import, RAW support, hardware-accelerated export, and compatibility with Intel-built plug-ins.
Adobe says older unsupported versions were not designed or tested for Windows ARM; certain 25.x versions run in emulation. Confirm your exact application version and required features against Adobe’s Windows ARM support documentation before relying on a Snapdragon laptop for paid or deadline-sensitive editing.

The available official information does not establish export times or editing performance for particular laptop configurations, codecs, project sizes, or effects. It therefore cannot support a general promise that a Snapdragon laptop will edit 4K smoothly or outperform another processor class.
Can you develop software on a Snapdragon laptop?
Yes. Development can use emulation for x86/x64 tools, native ARM64 builds, or a hybrid approach. Qualcomm describes ARM64EC as an option for interoperability between ARM64 and emulated components. Its Windows on Snapdragon resources list Visual Studio, the Snapdragon LLVM Toolchain, profiling tools, and Qualcomm Device Cloud, which lets developers build, test, debug, and profile software on remote physical Snapdragon devices.

Check project dependencies before choosing a machine
- Confirm that your language runtimes, packages, and native extensions are available for ARM64, or test whether they work under emulation.
- Check whether containers, virtualization, device drivers, or kernel-level tools your project needs are supported on your intended Windows on Arm setup.
- Identify performance-critical components. Qualcomm advises porting critical components to native Snapdragon for optimal performance and full compatibility.
- Try your real toolchain and essential dependencies before committing if a compatibility failure would block your work.
Using the Snapdragon X NPU for inference
For NPU-based inference on Snapdragon X systems, Microsoft recommends ONNX Runtime with Qualcomm’s QNN Execution Provider. Software must explicitly target the NPU; having one does not automatically accelerate ordinary code or every AI workload. Microsoft’s Copilot+ PCs developer guide also describes Copilot+ PCs as requiring an NPU capable of more than 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS). That is a device-class requirement, not a gaming or video-editing performance measure.

Some games may work, but compatibility and performance are title-specific. Microsoft reported on August 25, 2026 that its Works on Windows on Arm catalog contained over 7,000 verified apps and games, using Microsoft’s compatibility data. The count shows the catalog’s breadth; it does not say that every listed game runs at a particular frame rate or graphics setting, or that every laptop configuration supports it.

Before buying, look up each game you care about in Microsoft’s Windows on Arm app ecosystem update and check current driver and anti-cheat requirements. A catalog entry is not a substitute for checking whether the game runs acceptably on the specific laptop. The available sources do not provide reliable title-by-title benchmarks or comparative gaming tests, so they cannot establish frame rates or show that Snapdragon X laptops replace discrete-GPU gaming laptops.
