Sometimes—but there is no blanket commercial-use license for every font called a “Commodore 64 font.” Permission depends on the specific font file and its license. For example, Style64’s C64 TrueType license permits use in static images and vector art, but restricts selling or redistributing the font file and limits software bundling. Identify the exact file and check its terms before using it in a product, game, website, or logo.
What “commercial use” means for a C64 font
“C64 font” describes a look or character set; it does not identify one universal font or license. A license may allow you to render text in artwork while forbidding you from distributing the font software itself. Web embedding, software bundling, and selling a font file can each have different conditions.
Before using a font, identify its author or project, confirm that the license applies to the exact file you downloaded, and match the license terms to your intended use. Do not assume that permission for one C64-style font applies to another.
What the Style64 C64 TrueType license permits
Style64’s C64 TrueType package lists five typefaces: C64 User, C64 User Mono, C64 Pro, C64 Pro Mono, and C64 Elite Mono. The project page describes monospace and variable-pitch versions of the C64 character set and lists version 1.2.1, released April 15, 2019. See the Style64 C64 TrueType project page and its license.

Static images and vector art
The license expressly permits using the fonts in static images and vector art. This covers making artwork that renders the font; it is not permission to distribute the underlying font file with that artwork or on its own.
Websites
The license permits embedding the font, including its EOT and WOFF variants, without modification, using the supplied filenames for website display through @font-face. It also permits linking to the Style64 download page. These specific conditions do not establish permission to host a modified copy or offer the font itself for download.
Software packages
The license permits including the font unmodified in a software package only if the software is provided to end users for free. The font must retain its supplied filename. A paid game or application, or a bundle that otherwise falls outside those terms, should not be treated as covered by this permission.

Uses the license restricts
For the Style64 package, the license says you may not:

- Sell the font.
- Include or redistribute it in a font collection, regardless of the collection’s price.
- Provide the font for direct download from a website.
For uses outside the listed guidelines, Style64 says: “You may also contact us to negotiate a (possibly commercial) license for your use outside of these guidelines.” This is an invitation to negotiate, not a license already granted. Get an agreement covering your intended use before proceeding.
Other C64-style fonts can have different terms
The zeiche C64 Font repository describes its TrueType and OpenType files as “Public domain under CC0 1.0 Universal.” That statement applies to the files covered by that repository’s license; it does not make every C64-style font public domain or override another author’s terms. Verify that your downloaded file is the one covered, and keep the applicable license information with your project.

When comparing fonts, check the actual file and author, commercial-use terms, permissions for artwork and embedding, software-bundling conditions, and any filename, modification, or attribution requirements. A familiar appearance or the label “C64 font” is not a substitute for that check.
Can you use a Commodore 64 font in a logo, game, or website?
Logo or promotional artwork
For the Style64 fonts, static images and vector art are expressly permitted. A logo exported as artwork may fit that permission, but the license for the font file does not grant permission to use Commodore’s name, logo, or other official marks. If the design includes those marks, consider the separate brand-use rules below.
Website
Style64’s license permits unmodified web embedding in the specified formats and under the supplied filenames for display with @font-face. Do not turn that permission into a public font download or assume it covers changes to the font.

Game or other software
For Style64, inclusion in software is permitted only when the software is freely provided to end users and the font remains unmodified under its supplied filename. If your game or application is paid, or your distribution does not meet those terms, contact Style64 to negotiate permission rather than assuming that displaying the font on screen is enough.

A font license governs the font file; it does not automatically authorize Commodore branding, and a Commodore brand license does not replace the font author’s terms. Commodore’s FAQ says: “If you’re selling compatible products without using our trademarks, you’re free to continue.” It also directs users seeking official commercial mark use to its separate licensing route.
Commodore’s licensing page describes options to apply for an official brand license or sell products through its marketplace. The page describes the pipeline as beta, lists a 6.4% fee for each option, and says official brand licensing involves mandatory physical samples and stringent testing; marketplace submissions are subject to due diligence and specification checks. These are company-published program terms, not a guarantee of acceptance or permission to use a third-party font. Check the page for current eligibility and terms if you are pursuing either route.

A practical check before you publish or ship
- Identify the exact font file. Record its project or author and the page from which you obtained it.
- Read the license that applies to that file. Look for the intended activity: rendering in artwork, web embedding, software inclusion, modification, sale, or redistribution.
- Check each distribution condition. For Style64, that means unmodified files, supplied filenames for the permitted web and software uses, and free end-user software for the stated bundling permission.
- Separate font use from branding. If the design uses Commodore names, logos, or other official marks, assess that separately from the font license.
- Get written permission for anything outside the stated terms. Style64 invites users to negotiate for other uses; do not treat that invitation as approval.
The terms discussed here do not settle every legal question about a particular typeface design, use, or jurisdiction. For a consequential commercial project, consult a qualified lawyer if the scope of the license or any mark rights is uncertain.
