If the update installed but caused a problem, check for a newer fix or get help with the specific symptom; a factory reset is not a way to restore the previous Android or One UI version.
Can you remove an installed Samsung update?
Samsung India Support states: “Once your device has been updated to the latest software version, you cannot downgrade to a previous firmware version due to enhanced security policies.” The statement is Samsung’s published policy; the exact software available and support options can vary by Galaxy model, region, carrier and version.
Samsung documents Settings and Smart Switch as ways to install available updates, not as methods for uninstalling a successfully installed update. Its Smart Switch recovery instructions address certain failed updates, not a consumer rollback to an older build.
If the update installed but you dislike it or something changed
Check for a newer corrective update
Samsung advises checking for available software updates when a device has problems, since a fix may already be available. On the phone, open Settings > Software update > Download and install. Menu wording can vary by model and software version. You can also connect the phone to Smart Switch on a Windows PC or Mac to see whether an update is offered. Keep the USB connection intact while an update is in progress. Samsung’s India instructions specify at least 20% battery for that workflow; treat this as guidance for that update procedure, not a universal requirement for every device or situation.

Identify the issue and get model-specific help
Before contacting support, note the Galaxy model, current Android and One UI versions, carrier or sales region, and what is going wrong. Update timing and availability can differ by location and carrier, and Samsung notes that menu names and layouts vary. If no corrective update is offered, contact Samsung support for your region and describe the specific symptom.
If the update failed or the phone will not boot
An incomplete installation is a different problem from wanting to remove firmware that installed successfully. For a failed update, Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance includes checking storage, network and USB connection, and using Smart Switch where appropriate. If the phone cannot boot normally after a failed update, Samsung says service may be required to reflash the device. That recovery guidance does not promise that a service center can install a particular older firmware version.

Samsung’s emergency recovery instructions say a factory data reset may be needed in some recovery situations, including recovery on another computer. Back up important data if possible before using recovery or reset options, and follow the instructions for your device.

A factory reset erases user data and content; it is not a firmware rollback. Samsung describes reset as troubleshooting or recovery and warns users to back up first, but its guidance does not say that resetting restores the prior Android or One UI version. Do not reset solely to return to an earlier update. Consider it only when troubleshooting calls for it and you understand the data-loss risk.
