Usually, yes—if you keep the same scheduled YouTube event and change only the service sending its video feed. The public watch-page URL belongs to the YouTube event; the replacement service needs that event’s current YouTube ingest URL and stream key. Creating a new event is different: do not assume it will use the old event’s viewer link.
First, distinguish the two URLs
- Viewer-facing watch-page URL: The link viewers use to open a scheduled or live YouTube event. YouTube lets you share a scheduled stream’s event link. YouTube’s scheduling guidance explains how to share it.
- Encoder ingest URL: The destination the streaming service uses to send video to YouTube. In the encoder or cloud service, this is entered as the server or Stream URL. The stream key is a separate credential used with it. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and stream key guidance.
Changing the sender means updating its connection settings; it does not, by itself, mean creating a different viewer-facing event.
How to switch services while keeping the event link
- Keep the existing scheduled event in YouTube Studio. Use the event you already shared if keeping that viewer URL is the goal. YouTube’s scheduling workflow distinguishes reusing settings from creating a new stream; a newly created event should not be assumed to inherit the old event’s watch-page URL. See YouTube’s scheduling guidance.
- Get the current ingest details for that event. In Live Control Room, retrieve the Stream URL and stream key associated with the event. YouTube creates the key, which you enter in the encoder; the Stream URL tells the encoder where to send the feed. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as secret. See encoder setup and stream keys.
- Configure the replacement service’s YouTube destination. Enter the event’s current Stream URL and key in the service’s YouTube destination or encoder settings. Check that the service supports the ingest protocol required by your setup. YouTube documents RTMPS and HLS; HLS is used for HDR or codecs that RTMP does not support, and the encoder must support the selected protocol. See YouTube’s protocol guidance.
- Test before going live. Start a rehearsal or test transmission, confirm the video appears in Live Control Room’s preview, and open the intended event’s watch page to check that it is accessible. YouTube recommends checking the preview and watch-page accessibility in its streaming tips.
- Replace a reset key. If you reset the YouTube stream key, update it in the replacement service before starting the feed. YouTube explicitly instructs creators to update the encoder after a reset. Keep the key private because it functions like a password. See YouTube’s stream key instructions.
Keep the same event or create a new one?
| Choice | What it means for the viewer link | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Keep the existing scheduled event | Preserves the event you have already shared; change the service sending the feed and connect it to that event’s current ingest details. | You want viewers to keep using the same watch-page link and event. |
| Create a new event | A new event has its own watch page; YouTube does not state that it inherits the old event’s URL. | You intend to publish a new event and can share its new link. |
YouTube’s guidance covers scheduling, sharing, reusing settings, and creating streams, but does not promise that a new event will retain an existing event’s viewer URL. The practical approach for retaining the link is to keep the original event. Review YouTube’s scheduling workflow before changing the event.
What to verify if the switch does not work
- The service connects, but the intended event is not receiving video: Check that you entered the current Stream URL and stream key for the existing event, rather than relying on old connection details.
- You reset the key: Replace the old key in the cloud service’s settings, then start a new test transmission.
- You selected HLS or RTMPS: Confirm that the replacement service supports the chosen protocol and that its encoder is configured for it. YouTube’s protocol options and compatibility notes are in its streaming guidance.
- The preview works, but viewers cannot reach the page: Check that you are sharing the watch page for the existing scheduled event, not an encoder ingest address or a different event. Test the public link before the broadcast.
- You cannot start a YouTube live stream: YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Check the channel’s eligibility in YouTube Studio; this is separate from changing cloud services. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you are switching providers because you want a pre-recorded YouTube stream to keep running without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo is one option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. YouTube watch-page links still belong to YouTube events, so connect the service to the event you intend to use and test the feed. Start a free StreamNeo day.
