No—not on the evidence in Aleph Alpha’s official Luminous materials cited here. Those materials describe Luminous access through the Completion Playground and API client, not downloadable Luminous weights for local inference. Aleph Alpha’s documented open-weight local-serving example is for Kolibri, a separate model family; its weights, license, software stack, and hardware guidance do not apply to Luminous.
Can you run Luminous locally with open-weight software?
The official Aleph Alpha materials cited here do not document a way to download Luminous weights and run them on your own machine or server. The 2023 Luminous benchmark article describes Base, Extended, and Supreme as available through the Completion Playground and API client. A separate Luminous-Explore example uses the Aleph Alpha API and the aleph-alpha-client package. These are hosted access routes, not instructions for local inference.

This is a conclusion about the cited official documentation, not proof that no private, legacy, or otherwise unpublished deployment exists. The sources do not establish current Luminous endpoint status, account requirements, pricing, or weight and license terms. Do not treat the historical model descriptions as a current download catalog.
What the Luminous documentation establishes
Aleph Alpha’s benchmark article, published on 20 February 2023, names three Luminous models and reports their parameter counts at that time:

| Luminous Supreme | 70B | Historical benchmark-era model description; not evidence of a downloadable checkpoint. |
The same article describes training on a curated multilingual corpus with English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish sources. It reports language-token counts ranging from approximately 400 billion for the smallest model to 588 billion for the largest. These are the article’s historical account, not a verified current training specification. Read Aleph Alpha’s 2023 Luminous benchmark article.
Aleph Alpha’s Luminous-Explore article demonstrates semantic representations through an API example using a Luminous model name and the aleph-alpha-client package. It documents API use; it does not provide published Luminous weights or a local inference procedure. See the Luminous-Explore article.
Why Kolibri’s local-serving instructions are not a Luminous tutorial
Aleph Alpha’s 3 October 2026 Kolibri announcement describes a different model family. It says Kolibri’s full weights can be downloaded from Hugging Face and used under the Apache 2.0 license. Its serving instructions use aleph-alpha-inference, which installs the supported vLLM version and plugin, followed by a vllm serve example for Aleph-Alpha/Kolibri-1. None of this establishes that Luminous weights are available or compatible with that stack. Read Aleph Alpha’s Kolibri announcement.

The distinction matters for both setup and expectations: a command that serves Kolibri is not a command for serving Luminous, and Kolibri’s license does not describe Luminous licensing.
Kolibri specifications, clearly labeled
Aleph Alpha’s Kolibri page reports the following figures for Kolibri only:
| Kolibri specification | Reported value | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Total parameters | 78B | Kolibri |
| Active parameters per token | 3B | Kolibri |
| Maximum context length | 1,048,576 tokens | Kolibri; the page recommends 262,144 tokens for efficient operation. |
| FP8 model storage | Approximately 78 GB | Kolibri weights; this is storage, not a complete estimate of serving memory or hardware needs. |
These figures cannot be used to size a local Luminous deployment. Aleph Alpha’s Kolibri model page lists hardware options for Kolibri, not Luminous.
Quick Recap
What to do if your goal is local inference
- If you specifically need Luminous: use the official Playground or API route described in Aleph Alpha’s Luminous materials, and confirm current access and terms directly with Aleph Alpha. The cited sources do not establish present-day pricing, endpoint availability, or account requirements.
- If an open-weight local model is acceptable: investigate Kolibri as a separate model, following Aleph Alpha’s current Kolibri documentation. Do not substitute its weights or serving command for Luminous.
- If you already have a Luminous checkpoint: the cited public sources do not establish its provenance, license, supported inference software, or compatibility. Verify those details with the party that supplied it before deploying.
