The SX60XX hardware manual documents a physical reset for the admin password, but it does not say that the reset removes the separate password protecting the U-Boot command prompt. Treat those as different credentials.
What the SX6012 reset button does—and does not do
The SX60XX Hardware User Manual says holding the reset button for at least 15 seconds resets the system and management-board CPU, and lets an operator enter without a password and set a new password for the admin user. It does not identify this as a U-Boot password reset or say that it clears bootloader credentials. See the SX60XX Hardware User Manual’s reset-button instructions.
The manual distinguishes this from a press of up to 14 seconds, which resets the system and management-board CPU but is not described as resetting the admin password. Neither duration is documented as clearing U-Boot access credentials. Do not assume the button wipes configuration, restores every default, or bypasses a protected boot option.
Use a flat object to press the reset button. The manual specifically warns against a sharp pointed object, such as a needle or push pin.

Why the U-Boot password is a separate issue
An NVIDIA Developer Forum post shows an SX-series boot menu with both c: Command prompt (password required) and u: USB menu (if USB device connected) (password required). That reported menu supports the distinction between protected boot options and the manual’s admin password reset; it does not provide an authorized password-removal procedure. The manual also describes connecting the RS232 connector labeled CONSOLE to a laptop for troubleshooting. Console access can show boot messages, but it does not itself authorize entry to a password-protected U-Boot option. In one documented recovery scenario, Control-B interrupts boot so the operator can select a previous image after a failed software upgrade. That is not a password bypass procedure.

- Preserve the current state. Avoid repeated reset attempts or undocumented boot-menu actions if you need to retain configuration or other device data.
- Use the console only for visibility and documented troubleshooting. Connect through the labeled CONSOLE port as described in the hardware manual; do not interpret a visible menu as permission to enter a protected prompt.
- Contact NVIDIA Networking support. Ask for guidance specific to the SX6012, hardware revision, and installed firmware, and clarify that the inaccessible credential is for U-Boot rather than the MLNX-OS
adminaccount. NVIDIA’s networking support page links to support, documentation, firmware downloads, and end-of-life product information; confirm eligibility with NVIDIA.
The manual and forum post establish the admin-password reset and the existence of password-protected U-Boot options, respectively. They do not establish whether an authorized service-level procedure exists to clear the U-Boot prompt password when MLNX-OS access is unavailable.
