Check your regional Nintendo eShop or participating retailers for current availability, and confirm whether a listing is for the original Nintendo Switch game or the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Why you can’t preorder it now
Nintendo lists 16 October 2025 as the release date for Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Since that date has passed, a preorder is not possible; you can look for the game as a current purchase instead. Availability and price can vary by region, so check the live listing in your local store. Nintendo UK’s game page describes the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition as an upgraded version with improved resolution and frame rates.

How Nintendo digital preorders generally work
The following describes Nintendo’s standard process for eligible games before release; it does not mean Pokémon Legends: Z-A can still be preordered.
- Find an eligible game. Open it in the Nintendo eShop on your console or on nintendo.com.
- Place the preorder. Select “Proceed to pre-order” and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Payment is processed. Nintendo charges the full purchase amount no sooner than seven days before the game’s release. If payment fails, Nintendo says the preorder is canceled.
- The game preloads. After successful payment, a non-playable version downloads to the console. You can start playing after downloading a small update made available on release day.
These timing and preload details come from Nintendo Support’s eShop pre-order and pre-load FAQ.

Choose the right edition and add-ons
Check the product name and platform before buying. The original Nintendo Switch game and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition are distinct listings. Nintendo Support also identifies a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack and Mega Dimension DLC for both Switch 2 and Switch. The upgrade pack and DLC are separate digital products, not preorders of the base game. See Nintendo Support’s DLC information and confirm the details in your regional store.
- If you do not own the game, check whether the listing is the Switch base game or the Switch 2 Edition.
- If you already own the Switch version and want to play the Switch 2 Edition, check the Upgrade Pack listing and its requirements.
- If you want additional content, verify that the Mega Dimension DLC is listed separately from the base game.
- For a physical copy, check the packaging and listing for the correct console edition; physical stock varies by retailer and region.
Are the early-purchase bonuses still available?
The Pokémon Company previously announced a digital-version code for 100 Poké Balls and an internet Mystery Gift Ralts for physical and digital buyers. The Ralts claim period ended on 28 February 2026, so that offer should not be treated as currently available. The announcement described the offers for the game and Switch 2 Edition; check current official terms rather than relying on an old listing for any remaining code or redemption eligibility. Read the original bonus announcement.
