When does Minecraft release on Switch 2?
Mojang’s August 5, 2026 announcement gives October 27, 2026 as the release date. Nintendo Korea’s September 29, 2026 notice gives October 28 as the local release date for the packaged version. Use the date shown by your regional store rather than assuming every market launches on the same day.

What is different about the Switch 2 version?
The Switch 2 release is a native version, not simply the existing Nintendo Switch listing. Mojang says it will launch with Vibrant Visuals enabled by default. The visual update adds enhanced lighting and shadows. Mojang also says the Super Mario Mash-Up pack will receive an update.
Vibrant Visuals is not available in every situation. Mojang notes exclusions that include split-screen play and certain Marketplace worlds and content, so the default setting should not be taken to mean every world or play mode uses the effects.

Can existing Nintendo Switch owners upgrade?
Mojang’s August 5 announcement says a digital upgrade path will be available for existing Nintendo Switch owners. It does not specify the upgrade’s price, eligibility requirements, or other terms, so those details should be checked in the regional Nintendo store when they are posted. The announcement does not establish that the upgrade is free.
What to check before ordering
- Confirm the product title identifies the Nintendo Switch 2 version, rather than the existing Nintendo Switch edition.
