Can You Keep PS Plus Games After They Leave?

Yes—if you claimed a PlayStation Plus Monthly Game while it was available, it remains associated with your library after the offer ends. You still need an active PlayStation Plus membership to play it. Games from the Extra or Premium Game Catalog work differently: they can become unavailable when they leave the catalog, even if you downloaded them.

What happens to a claimed Monthly Game?

Add the game to your library during its monthly offer window. After the offer ends, the claim remains associated with your account; you do not have to download the game before the offer expires. Sony says you can add Monthly Games to your library and play them while you have an active membership plan. PlayStation’s US games and FAQ page describes that access, and PlayStation Support explains how to access Monthly Games.

Monthly Games are included with Essential and higher tiers. The important distinction is that a lasting library claim is not the same as a permanent, subscription-free license: you need eligible, active PlayStation Plus access to play.

What if your membership ends or you cancel?

Canceling stops the next renewal; it does not normally end benefits immediately. PlayStation Support’s UK cancellation guidance says membership benefits continue until the end of the paid period. When the subscription ends, Monthly Games you previously downloaded at no extra cost become unavailable until PlayStation Plus access is restored. See PlayStation Support’s cancellation guidance.

Restoring membership can restore access to a claimed Monthly Game, provided the account and game remain eligible. The claim itself does not replace the active-membership requirement.

How are catalog games different?

A Game Catalog or Classics Catalog title is offered through an eligible Extra or Premium plan, rather than claimed as a Monthly Game. Catalog titles can rotate out of the service. Sony’s US usage terms say games downloaded to a console are playable only while the subscription is valid and the game remains available in the service. So downloading a catalog game does not preserve access after it leaves. Read the PlayStation Plus Usage Terms (US).

If the catalog game leaves, resubscribing alone may not restore access to that title while it remains outside the service. A separately purchased copy may be another route, but availability depends on the specific game, edition, and region; do not assume every catalog title is sold separately. Sony’s terms also describe conditions under which purchased add-ons associated with a catalog game can be used again if you resubscribe or purchase the game.

Check which kind of game you have

Look at how you got it. If you added it to your library during a Monthly Games offer, it is a claimed Monthly Game. If you accessed it from the Game Catalog or Classics Catalog, it is a catalog title.
Check your membership status and tier. A claimed Monthly Game requires active PlayStation Plus access. A catalog title requires a tier that includes that catalog.
For a catalog title, check whether it is still offered. Look for a stated removal date in the service listing. A download does not extend its availability.
Check region and platform eligibility. Plan benefits and individual titles can vary by country, region, platform, device, and account conditions.
