Firmware updates are not app installations
The X2D 100C’s firmware is the camera’s built-in software. Hasselblad distributes firmware updates to add or adjust camera functions, but that does not make the camera a platform for installing user-selected programs. For example, Hasselblad’s 3.1.0 release notes describe features including face detection, 10-bit HEIF and tethered live view through Phocus Mobile 2 or Phocus for Mac. Where Phocus and Phocus Mobile 2 fit
Phocus and Phocus Mobile 2 are Hasselblad image-processing and photography workflow tools for supported computers and mobile devices. The X2D 100C FAQ describes connecting the camera by Wi-Fi to compatible iPhone or iPad devices for transferring and editing images. That workflow uses software on the companion device; it is not an installation of Phocus or other apps onto the camera. [Hasselblad X2D 100C FAQ]
How to install an official X2D 100C firmware update
If you want new camera functions, use Hasselblad’s official firmware process. The manual permits storing the firmware file on the camera’s built-in SSD or a CFexpress Type B card, so a card is not required solely for this update. [X2D 100C User Manual v1.4]

- Check Hasselblad’s X System Firmware page for the current X2D 100C release and download its firmware file. Availability can change; the firmware index listed version 4.2.0 when checked on October 7, 2026.
- Copy the firmware file to the root of the built-in SSD or to the root of a CFexpress Type B card.
- On the camera, open General > Service > Check for Update.
- Select the intended firmware file and follow the on-screen prompts. Confirm that you selected the file you meant to install.
- Keep the camera powered on and do not remove the card or interrupt the update while it is in progress.
What about third-party firmware or hacks?
Hasselblad’s cited support materials describe official firmware, not a supported route for loading third-party firmware or arbitrary code. They do not establish whether any unofficial hardware or firmware modification exists. If you are looking for a supported way to add games or custom apps, the documented answer is no; do not treat an unofficial modification as an available or supported installation method.
Check companion-app requirements separately
Some camera features depend on the companion software version. For example, Hasselblad’s 3.2.0 release notes specify a Phocus Mobile 2 version requirement for the experience described in that release. Check the relevant release notes and current app requirements when setting up a particular workflow; installing or updating the companion app still happens on the supported mobile device, not on the X2D itself.
