Yes. Some Bluetooth headphones also accept a cable, letting you switch between wireless listening and a wired connection. Check the exact model’s specifications or manual for the wired input and how it works: “wireless” by itself does not mean a headphone can be plugged in.

What “wired and wireless” means

A hybrid headphone supports Bluetooth and at least one wired audio connection. That wired connection may be an analog input, such as a 3.5 mm socket, or digital audio over USB-C. These are not interchangeable: confirm that the headphones accept the connection your source device provides.

For example, an iPod or another player with a 3.5 mm headphone output needs headphones with a compatible analog input and cable. A USB-C port on a headphone does not, on its own, establish that it accepts USB-C audio; check the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact model.

What to check before you buy

  • Wired input: Verify whether the model supports analog 3.5 mm, another analog connector, USB-C audio, or a particular combination.
  • Battery behavior: Find out whether wired playback works with the headphones switched off or the battery depleted, or whether the headset must remain powered.
  • Features in wired mode: Check separately whether the microphone, onboard controls, noise cancellation, equalization, or sound processing work while cabled. Some functions may be unavailable.
  • Cable fit: Confirm whether a cable is included, whether it is replaceable, and whether its headphone-side connector matches the model. Follow the manual rather than assuming a generic cable will fit or work.
  • Source-device fit: Make sure the cable’s other end connects to your phone, computer, music player, or an appropriate adapter.
  • Everyday fit: Comfort, isolation, portability, and call needs still matter; wired compatibility alone does not identify the best headphone for everyone.

Examples of documented wired and wireless behavior

Model What the manufacturer documents Important qualification
Sony WH-XB700 Bluetooth plus wired use with the supplied headphone cable. Sony says wired playback works with the battery empty or the headset off. Bluetooth and some controls are unavailable with the cable connected.
Sony MDR-XB950BT Wired use with the supplied cable. Bluetooth and Electro Bass Booster cannot be used in cable mode; several controls are unavailable.
Sony WH-1000XM6 Sony lists a connection cable in the box and Bluetooth 5.3, and gives cable-connected impedance and sensitivity specifications. The specifications distinguish cable-connected measurements with the unit on and off. Consult the model guide for practical feature behavior.
Sennheiser HDB 630 The product page describes wireless headphones with an included cable for a 3.5 mm jack and wired hi-res capability through analog input or USB-C. Sennheiser specifies wired hi-res capability up to 24-bit/96 kHz over USB-C, analog input, or its BTD 700 Bluetooth USB-C dongle; that specification describes this product, not every headphone.
Bose Headphones 700 The manual says to use the audio cable to connect a non-wireless device or when the battery is depleted. Check the relevant regional manual and current package contents before relying on included accessories.
Sony WH-CH510 Sony documents this Bluetooth model as having no 3.5 mm jack and no wired mode. It is a counterexample: Bluetooth capability does not imply cable support.

Does wired mode work when the battery is dead?

Sometimes, but it depends on the model. Sony specifically says the WH-XB700 can be used as ordinary wired headphones when its battery is empty or the headset is off. That behavior should not be assumed for other Bluetooth headphones. Check the manual for wording about playback with the power off or battery depleted.

Sony WI-C100 Wireless in-Ear Bluetooth Headphones with Built-in Mic, Black
  • Note : If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, you may not obtain the correct sound qualities or call performance. Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ear
  • Long battery life of up to 25 hours
  • DSEE restores high frequency sounds lost in compression
  • Splash-proof and sweat-proof with an IPX4 rating
  • Easier, clearer hands-free calling

Can you use all the same features over a cable?

Not necessarily. A wired connection may carry audio while disabling Bluetooth, some buttons, or sound-processing features. For instance, Sony says the WH-XB700 loses Bluetooth and certain controls when cabled; the MDR-XB950BT also cannot use Electro Bass Booster in cable mode. Verify each feature you need rather than treating “wired” as a promise that every function remains available.

How to choose the right type

  1. Identify your source: Check whether your device outputs analog audio through a 3.5 mm jack, offers USB-C audio, or needs an adapter.
  2. Match the headphone input: Look for explicit manufacturer confirmation of the same wired connection type.
  3. Check battery fallback and features: Read the model’s manual for off/battery-depleted playback and for the functions that remain active in wired mode.
  4. Confirm the cable: Check whether the correct cable is supplied or sold for that exact model and whether it fits both the headset and your source.

A useful search phrase is “Bluetooth headphones with wired mode,” but use the manufacturer’s product page or manual to verify the particular input and behavior you need.
