Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsNo—Snapchat’s official help pages do not document a setting that turns Spotlight off or removes it from the app. You can change certain related settings, but they do different things: eligible users can turn off personalization for public feeds, anyone can give feedback on individual posts, and users can disable Spotlight comment notifications. Parents can also limit sensitive content for a teen. None of these controls removes Spotlight.
What you can change instead
| Control | What it changes | Does it disable Spotlight? |
|---|---|---|
| Turn off public-feed personalization | Changes how public content is recommended; available in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland. | No. Public recommendations continue. |
| Reset Suggested Content | Resets most personalization indicators in public feeds. | No. It is a reset, not a permanent block. |
| Skip, hide, or report a post | Signals that you do not want to see an individual item; reporting is for content that violates Snapchat’s rules. | No. Snapchat does not promise to block a topic or remove the feed. |
| Turn off comment notifications | Stops the Spotlight comment notification category. | No. Spotlight videos remain available. |
| Hide Sensitive Content in Family Center | Limits sensitive or suggestive content in a teen’s experience. | No. It is a content limit, not feed removal. |
Snapchat describes these controls in its Spotlight ranking guidance and related support pages.
Turn off public-feed personalization, if you are in an eligible region
Snapchat says this option is available to users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. It affects personalization of public content feeds; it does not switch off Spotlight.
- Open Discover or Spotlight and tap the three-dot menu, then choose “Why am I seeing this content?” Alternatively, open Snapchat Settings and select “Personalization Controls.”
- Turn off personalization.
Public content will still be recommended. Snapchat says those recommendations can use basic information such as your phone’s language, age, and country, and may feel more random and less relevant. The change may take some time to appear. See How We Rank Content on Spotlight for Snapchat’s explanation.

Reset suggested content for a fresh feed
“Reset Suggested Content” is another option in Settings. It refreshes public feeds by clearing most personalization indicators, but it is not a lasting opt-out or a complete reset. You may still see creators or content you followed, blocked, or disliked, as well as content tailored to demographic information. Snapchat documents the reset alongside its ranking controls in its Spotlight ranking guidance.
Give feedback on individual Spotlight posts
Skip or hide a post you do not enjoy; Snapchat says these actions, along with reporting, can inform ranking. This may influence what appears over time, but Snapchat does not say that feedback blocks an entire subject or removes Spotlight. Use Report for content that breaks Snapchat’s rules, not simply as a preference button. The available controls are described in How We Rank Content on Spotlight.
Turn off Spotlight comment notifications
If the alerts—not the videos—are the problem, turn off the comment category:
- Open Snapchat Settings.
- Under “My Account,” tap “Notifications.”
- Turn off “Comments.”
This stops Spotlight comment alerts, not Spotlight content. Snapchat also describes controls for individual notification types on iOS in its iOS notification guide.

Limit sensitive Spotlight content for a teen
A parent using Family Center can enable “Hide Sensitive Content” to limit sensitive or suggestive material in places including Stories and Spotlight:
- Open Family Center and go to Settings.
- Expand the settings section and turn on “Hide Sensitive Content.”
Snapchat cautions that no filter is perfect, so some posts may still appear. This setting limits content; it does not remove Spotlight. See How do I restrict content for my teen in Family Center?
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you remove Spotlight or disable Discover?
The available Spotlight-specific guidance documents personalization, feed-reset, and feedback controls, but no Spotlight off switch. Snapchat’s broader help topic says Discover cannot be completely disabled and that only some Stories and Shows can be hidden; it does not explicitly address disabling Spotlight, so that statement should not be treated as proof about Spotlight itself. The careful answer is that Snapchat’s documented options let you adjust parts of the experience, not remove the Spotlight feature. See the Snapchat help topic for Spotlight and related features.
