Yes, a FrodoBots EarthRover can be driven remotely over the internet when the rover has working 4G coverage and the driver has a stable internet connection. That does not mean literally anywhere: weak service at either end can cause lag, and remote driving is subject to local rules. The $299 offer in the assigned title is not established by FrodoBots’ current pages; the official shop currently shows the Mini+ at $349, reduced from $399. Check the live listing and checkout before buying.
What “from anywhere” means for a 4G EarthRover
FrodoBots describes browser-based remote driving: the EarthRover connects through 4G, while the driver uses an internet-connected computer and a supported input device. Remote operation therefore depends on two connections—mobile data at the rover and a stable connection for the driver. If either is weak or unreliable, controls may lag or become difficult to use. FrodoBots explains this in its shop FAQ, Mini+ product page and stream-lag support guide.
“Anywhere” also has a practical and legal limit: the robot must be somewhere with usable service, and its owner is responsible for following local regulations. Rules can vary by jurisdiction, so check the requirements for the place where you plan to operate it.
Is the Mini+ really available for $299?
The current official shop listing shows the Mini+ at $349, reduced from $399. FrodoBots’ current product and shop pages do not establish when, for which model, or whether a $299 offer was available. Treat that price as unverified unless it appears in a current, dated offer or at checkout. The shop landing page displays a “Sold Out” label near its product collection, while the product page has an add-to-cart control, so verify live checkout availability rather than assuming it is in stock.

How to get a rover connected and start driving
Activate 4G
FrodoBots’ 4G setup guide, dated February 11, 2026, says to use an active-data SIM without a PIN lock. The robot does not come with a physical SIM. The guide describes linking the rover through Discord and completing activation on a desktop or laptop. Follow the current guide for the exact activation steps.

Use Wi-Fi as an activation alternative
A separate Wi-Fi setup guide explains an alternative connection route. It also requires a computer for the final activation step. The Mini+ product page describes Wi-Fi use, but Wi-Fi connection should not be confused with driving remotely over the internet through 4G.
Choose a driving input
FrodoBots lists a game controller, steering wheel or desktop keyboard as input options on its Mini+ product page. A game controller is optional; the cited material does not identify or independently test a specific controller model, so confirm compatibility before purchasing one.

Remote driving and local Wi-Fi control are different
The Mini+ also has a local control mode for basic movement and hardware functions when internet access is unavailable. Connect a phone to the robot’s own Wi-Fi, open its local control page and use the on-screen joystick. This is a nearby, local connection—not internet-based control from a distant location. FrodoBots says local mode does not support missions or scoring. See the local-control guide for the instructions.
Mini+ specifications and the latency caveat
FrodoBots’ product page lists the Mini+ at 1.5 kg, with front and rear cameras, USB-C charging, GPS and IMU sensors, and up to 4–5 hours of active use. Its SDK repository describes the Mini+ chassis as 1.4 kg, with a top speed of 4 km/h, a range of 12 km per charge, IP34 water resistance and a maximum slope of 18 degrees. The two weight figures are presented by different official sources—the product page and the SDK—so they should not be treated as a single independently verified measurement. These are published specifications, not independent test results.

The Mini+ FAQ says perceived latency is usually below one second, but this is FrodoBots’ claim rather than a guaranteed response time. The company warns that poor 4G at the rover or a poor home network can increase delay. Real performance will depend on both connections and conditions during use.
