But the control is not available to every user, does not cover every type of Zoom data, and does not guarantee that every network hop stays within the selected country. Zoom’s support documentation says traffic may still be routed between data centers over its private network.
What does Zoom’s country-selection control do?
For eligible accounts, an owner or administrator can select data-center regions for processing real-time meeting and webinar video and audio, as well as whiteboards, notes, docs, and shared content. The account’s provisioned region remains locked as an opt-in.
That is a processing-region choice, not a universal switch that directs every Zoom datum to a country of your choosing. Zoom’s support article, “Selecting data center for meetings, webinars, whiteboards, notes and docs,” explains: “However, Zoom may route through traffic between data centers using industry standard network routing protocols while traversing Zoom private network connections (i.e., edge-routing).”
Which data is controlled, and which is not?
Zoom has separate controls for processing during a service and for storing selected content. Those controls should not be treated as interchangeable.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
| Data category | What the available control covers | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Real-time meeting and webinar content | Data-center selection for video, audio, whiteboard, notes, docs, and shared content processing | Network traffic may still use edge-routing between data centers. |
| Stored customer content | Separate storage-location controls cover recordings, transcripts, some chats and files, Zoom Whiteboard, and selected Zoom Phone and Contact Center content. | Availability depends on product and account; this is not the same setting as processing-region selection. |
| Account and operation data | Not covered by the customer’s selected storage location | Zoom says this data remains in the United States. |
| Other data | Not necessarily covered by either of the choices above | Other categories remain in the account’s provisioned region. |
Does choosing a region keep Zoom traffic inside one country?
No. Selecting a data-center region determines where the specified content is processed, but Zoom’s documented edge-routing means traffic can pass between data centers using private-network connections, including through a data center in a region the account opted out of. The control therefore should not be read as a guarantee that every network link, relay, or hop remains within one country.
Who can select Zoom data-center regions?
Zoom lists Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education accounts as eligible for data-center selection. Account owners and administrators can manage the setting, and administrators can apply it at the account, group, or user level. Free accounts do not have the same choice. The account’s provisioned region is locked and cannot be changed through this opt-in.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
Which locations can customers choose for storage?
Zoom’s storage controls list these supported locations for eligible customer content:
- Australia
- Brazil
- Canada
- Germany
- Japan
- Singapore
- Mexico
- Switzerland
- United States
The list does not mean every Zoom product or every account can store every kind of content in every location. Product and account exceptions apply, and account and operation data remain in the United States.

- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
What do Zoom’s UK and EU localization announcements mean?
Regional infrastructure announcements are separate from the general data-center and storage controls. Zoom’s April 2026 EU fact sheet describes localization with exceptions for legal requirements, trust and safety, service notifications, and service enablement. Its UK announcement says the regional service is live for new paid UK customers and is coming to existing paid customers. Those statements describe regional service availability; they do not establish that all Zoom data is confined to the UK or EU.

The official materials available for this topic do not provide a qualifying figure for affected users or traffic volume, or a measured latency or performance effect. There is therefore no supported number to use for estimating how many customers will benefit or whether selecting a region will make a call faster.
