Check the current game client or a newer official notice for your region before choosing on the assumption that you can switch later.
What the official guidance says about changing factions
NCSOFT’s global server and matchmaking information describes the setup sequence as choosing a region, then a faction, then a server available in that region. It does not explain a later character faction-change option. The available official material therefore does not confirm that you can switch from Elyos to Asmodian, or from Asmodian to Elyos, after character creation; it also does not establish that such a feature is impossible in every current client or region.
Before committing time to a character, look for a faction-change option in the live client or check a newer official notice for your region. Do not assume a transfer will be available later unless NCSOFT confirms it.
How factions and servers are organized
NCSOFT says Elyos and Asmodians each have their own servers. Its launch guidance also explains that each Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server for a limited time. In modes including Spacetime Rifts and the Abyss, opponents can come from the matched server. That is cross-faction matchmaking; it does not change your character’s faction.

The October 16, 2025 character reservation announcement listed 10 launch servers for Elyos and 10 for Asmodians. Those figures describe the launch-era server lineup, not today’s server count or population balance. The official material reviewed does not provide a current faction population comparison.
What server-creation updates do—and do not—mean
NCSOFT’s February 23, 2026 update announcement said server-creation restrictions had been lifted at that time. That update concerns server creation, not changing an existing character’s faction, so it is not evidence that a faction transfer is available. Server conditions can change; check the latest notice relevant to your region.

Choosing a faction when friends are playing
Because the factions use separate servers, coordinate with friends about which faction and server to choose during setup. The official information confirms temporary cross-faction server pairings for named modes, but does not establish all current rules for parties, dungeons, or other social activities. Check the activity’s in-game rules if you need to know whether characters on different factions can join it.
