Yes—Spotify’s Pet Playlist generator explicitly included iguanas. It launched on January 15, 2020, and Spotify said in April 2022 that U.S. users could create a Pet Playlist in the app. The available sources do not establish whether the iguana option still works in 2026, so treat the instructions below as a guide to how the feature worked, not confirmation that you can use it today.
How Spotify’s iguana playlist worked
The Pet Playlist was a playful personalization tool, not a playlist made from an iguana’s measured musical tastes. Spotify asked users to choose a pet, describe its personality, and provide a name and photo. Its generator combined those details with the user’s Spotify listening preferences to produce a playlist and a share card.
Iguana was one of five pet options, alongside dog, cat, hamster, and bird. Spotify’s January 2020 launch post described the flow at spotify.com/pets. In April 2022, the company said U.S. users could create a Pet Playlist directly in the Spotify app.
The historical creation steps
- Choose “iguana” as the pet type.
- Answer prompts about the pet’s personality, such as whether it is relaxed or energetic and shy or friendly.
- Add the pet’s name and photo.
- Let Spotify combine the pet profile with your listening habits, then listen to or share the generated playlist and share card.
Spotify’s older instructions describe the feature’s past flow; they do not confirm that those screens or the historical URL remain available now.

What the playlist can—and cannot—tell you
Spotify framed the feature as entertainment and personalization, not an animal-wellbeing tool. Its January 2020 announcement quoted the feature FAQ: “While music for pets isn’t an exact science, we consulted with experts in the pet industry for the best approximation for what might work best for our featured animals.”
The sources cited here provide no controlled evidence that a Spotify-generated playlist benefits iguanas or that a particular track matches an individual iguana’s preferences. The playlist reflects your inputs and listening history; it is not a test of your pet’s musical taste.

Is Spotify’s Pet Playlist still available?
Spotify confirmed in 2022 that U.S. users could make Pet Playlists in the app, but the sources available do not establish whether that experience is accessible in 2026. The 2020 launch page is a historical reference, not proof of current availability. If you cannot find a pet-playlist option in the app, the documented instructions alone cannot confirm whether the feature has been retired or moved.
How it differs from Spotify’s newer Prompted Playlist
Spotify announced a separate Prompted Playlist beta in January 2026. It is for Premium listeners in the markets included in that beta and uses text prompts alongside listening history; it is not the pet-profile generator and does not imply that an iguana option is available.

What Spotify’s pet-playlist statistics mean
Spotify’s 2020 announcement reported that 71% of pet owners surveyed played music for their pets, 70% considered their pets’ emotional wellness daily, 8 in 10 believed their pets liked music, and around 46% felt music relieved stress for their pets. Those figures describe survey respondents, not verified effects on iguanas.
In 2022, Spotify reported increases in searches and streams related to pets on its platform. Its figures included searches for “puppy” rising nearly 700% since January 2020, and searches for “kitten,” “hamster,” and “bird” rising 800%, nearly 700%, and nearly 600%, respectively. It also said U.S. streams of its This Is Calming Music for Dogs playlist were up more than 330% since that playlist launched in early 2021. Spotify’s footnote generally compared January 2021–January 2022 with January 2019–January 2020 unless otherwise stated. These are platform activity measures, not evidence of animal preferences or health outcomes.
