Restreamer can publish a compatible video source to YouTube Live without OBS, but its reviewed documentation does not describe accepting a YouTube playlist page URL or automatically playing the next video in that playlist. For continuous playback, you need a separate authorized source that advances through videos and outputs a format Restreamer can receive—or a service designed to loop uploaded videos in the cloud.
What Restreamer can do without OBS
Restreamer’s documented YouTube workflow uses its Publication Service: configure a valid YouTube streaming ID, save the publication settings, and start a stream from an existing video source. OBS is not inherently required because Restreamer can publish a compatible source itself. Restreamer documentation describes supported source and publication workflows.
That is different from using a YouTube playlist URL as the source. The reviewed source documentation lists network protocols, but does not list a YouTube playlist page as an input or document automatic playlist advancement. A playlist page URL should not be assumed to work as a stream input.
How to make a playlist-based setup work
If you want Restreamer in the workflow, another component must play the videos in sequence and emit a stream Restreamer accepts. Use only content you are authorized to rebroadcast.

- Choose an authorized playback source. It must be able to access the videos lawfully, play them in sequence, and retry or advance as needed. The reviewed Restreamer documentation does not recommend a specific playlist player.
- Check the output format. Restreamer’s documented network-source options include HTTP/HTTPS (including HLS and DASH), RTP, RTSP, RTMP, and SRT for push sources; its pull/receive setup offers SRT, RTMP, and HLS. The format list alone does not establish that a particular playlist URL is usable. Confirm that your source produces an accessible stream in a supported format.
- Run the source and Restreamer on an always-available host. Restreamer is presented as a self-hosted Docker application. Its quick start includes persistent configuration/data mounts and network ports, so continuous operation depends on a host and network connection staying available. See the Restreamer quick start and source documentation.
- Configure YouTube publication. In Restreamer, choose Publication Service, enter the YouTube streaming ID, save, and start the publication. Restreamer’s YouTube guide documents this destination setup. The precise interface labels may vary by release.
- Test the entire chain. Confirm that the player advances to the next item, the output remains accessible to Restreamer, and the YouTube Live stream receives video and audio. A reconnect control can help recover a malfunctioning video process, but it does not establish playlist sequencing or guaranteed uninterrupted service.
What “continuous” means in practice
There are three separate links to keep working: the playlist player, the connection from that player into Restreamer, and Restreamer’s publication to YouTube. A reconnect setting addresses recovery from some process failures; it does not make a playlist advance, keep a host powered, or guarantee uptime. Plan monitoring and recovery for each component.
Rights and YouTube rules
YouTube requires stream providers to have the necessary rights for live content across Google services, including music and audiovisual rights. Its live-stream terms state that providers represent and warrant they have all necessary rights, including music licensing rights. A video being available on YouTube does not by itself grant permission to rebroadcast it in your own live stream.

Archives for long-running streams
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Treat this as an archive limitation, not a promise that every shorter stream will produce a complete recording. Restreamer’s YouTube guidance also advises ending the stream on YouTube first: interrupting Restreamer while live may mean YouTube does not save the event in its DVR archive. Common problems and what to check
- A playlist page URL is rejected or produces no video: Restreamer’s reviewed input documentation does not list YouTube playlist pages as a source type. Use a player that outputs a supported, accessible network stream instead.
- The first video plays but the next does not: Playlist advancement belongs to the playback source, not Restreamer’s documented publication workflow. Check the player’s sequencing and retry behavior.
- The stream stops after the host or connection fails: Restreamer is self-hosted, so verify that the host, network, and source process are running. Its reconnect control may help with a malfunctioning video process but is not a substitute for a continuous host.
- YouTube receives no stream: Check that the source is reachable in a supported protocol and that the YouTube streaming ID is valid and saved in Publication Service.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: Check stream duration against YouTube’s 12-hour guidance and end the event on YouTube before interrupting Restreamer.
