Yes. If Make stored the failed run as an incomplete execution, retrying it starts at the module that failed, using that module’s original input—not at the beginning of the scenario. That is Make’s documented recovery point, but it does not guarantee that every connector or custom workflow will avoid duplicate external side effects.

How Make resumes an incomplete execution

Make’s Manage incomplete executions instructions say the execution runs again “starting from the module that caused the incomplete execution with the original input.” Completed modules before that point are therefore not the documented restart point.

This answers where Make restarts its stored execution; it is not a universal promise that no external action can ever be duplicated. Make’s general recovery documentation does not establish idempotency for every connected app, operation, or custom scenario. If a workflow sends messages, creates records, or triggers another consequential action, check the connected app’s behavior and consider a deduplication or idempotency safeguard.

Make sure the failed run was stored

Incomplete-execution storage is disabled by default. Before relying on this recovery method, open the scenario’s settings and enable Store incomplete executions. If the failure was not stored, it will not be available in the incomplete-executions queue for this retry flow. See Make’s incomplete-executions overview.

Retry the execution or fix the module first?

Situation What to do What happens
Temporary service, connection, or rate-limit problem Retry the incomplete execution. Make retries the failed module with the input captured for the incomplete execution.
Incorrect module settings or a scenario blueprint that needs correction Open the incomplete execution, inspect the failed module, correct and save the module, then select Run once. The incomplete execution runs again from the failed module; it uses the corrected configuration.

Make documents the manual recovery flow in Manage incomplete executions and Scenario settings. Manual retry requires the scenario to be active. On success, the execution becomes resolved; if it fails again, it remains unresolved or a failure at another module can create a new incomplete execution. Make says resolved incomplete executions are automatically deleted after 30 days.

What automatic retry does

Make documents automatic retries for RateLimitError, ConnectionError, and ModuleTimeoutError, as well as Retry-handler executions when automatic completion is enabled. For the first three error types, Make lists this retry schedule: 1 minute, 10 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 30 minutes, 30 minutes, 3 hours, and 3 hours. Make also says a scenario run can have no more than three incomplete-execution retries in parallel; additional retries are batched, and a retry does not start while the original scenario is still running. These are Make-published operational details, not guarantees about a particular connected app. Check Make’s current automatic retry documentation before depending on exact timing.

Retrying is different from the Resume error handler

The named Resume error handler does not retry the failed operation. Instead, it supplies a predefined substitute output for the failed module and lets downstream processing continue. Retrying an incomplete execution reruns the failed module with its stored input. Use retry when the operation should be attempted again; use Resume only when downstream steps can correctly proceed with the substitute value. Make describes these options in its error-handler reference.

Limits that can prevent recovery

Not every failure is recoverable through the incomplete-executions queue. Make lists exceptions that include certain failures in the first module, storage-full conditions, scenario run-duration limits, and errors during initialization or rollback. Storage is limited by plan usage allowance. If storage fills, Make’s behavior—discarding failed data or pausing scheduling—depends on the scenario’s data-loss setting. See Make’s scenario settings documentation for storage, ordering, and variable options.
