Not without the rights needed for the specific bhajan, recording, territories, and uses in your stream. Devotional purpose alone does not make a song copyright-free. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a stream if matched material continues after a warning. Even a license may not prevent interruption unless the rights holder has added your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
Why a bhajan can involve several separate copyrights
“Bhajan” describes devotional subject matter, not the copyright status of a particular version. The words, music, arrangement, performance, and released recording may involve different works, owners, and permissions. Indian government copyright materials distinguish musical works, literary works such as lyrics, and sound recordings.

What YouTube may do to a live stream and its archive
While the stream is live
YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may show a placeholder and warn the streamer to stop using the material. If the material continues, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. Copyright strikes can also affect live-stream access.

After the broadcast
An archived live stream can receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast ends. Depending on the rights holder’s policy, a claim may monetize, track, or block the video, including only in particular territories. A Content ID claim is distinct from a copyright takedown and strike.
Why a license may not be enough operationally
YouTube advises creators with permission for third-party music to ask the rights holder or administrator to add their channel to the relevant Content ID allowlist. Without that step, a licensed stream may still be interrupted; territorial restrictions that match the rights you hold do not necessarily prevent an interruption when the channel is not allowlisted.

How to clear bhajans for a continuous YouTube stream
- Inventory the exact material. List each song and the exact recording or version, including any arrangement, performance, edits, and loops. Identify the lyricist, composer, arranger, performers, label or producer, and recording owner where possible.
- Map the rights and territories. Check whether the lyrics, composition, arrangement, and sound recording are protected, who controls each, and where the stream and archive will be available. Do not assume one person or organization controls every element.
- Obtain written permission for the actual use. Confirm that it covers YouTube live transmission, continuous or repeated playback, intended territories, monetization, duration, edits or looping, and whether the stream will be archived or made available later. Buying or downloading a copy of a song does not itself grant a public-performance or streaming license.
- Confirm any collecting-society license covers the work and use. For India, IPRS describes licensing for musical works and associated lyrics, including communication and making available. Check whether the particular works are in its repertoire and whether the license covers this YouTube use. Do not infer that it clears a separate sound recording or rights beyond its mandate.
- Arrange Content ID allowlisting before you go live. Ask the relevant rights holder or administrator to allowlist your channel for the licensed material, and keep written confirmation alongside the license.
- Keep a clearance record and monitor the stream. Retain the permission, the work and recording identifiers, territory and archive terms, allowlist confirmation, and a contact for disputes. Check the live stream for warnings and review claims on the archive after broadcast.
Does India’s religious-ceremony exception cover a 24/7 bhajan channel?
Section 52(1)(za) of India’s Copyright Act provides an exception for specified performance or communication of literary, dramatic, or musical works, or sound recordings, in the course of a bona fide religious ceremony. The Act says a religious ceremony includes a marriage procession and associated social festivities.

The statutory wording does not expressly settle whether an always-on public YouTube channel qualifies, and it should not be treated as a blanket exemption for devotional programming or a substitute for permission without case-specific legal advice. Nor does an India-specific exception decide rights in every country where a globally accessible YouTube stream can be viewed. YouTube’s livestream terms require providers to warrant that they have the necessary rights for worldwide use on Google services.

Safer alternatives when you cannot clear a recording
- Use music you have created and control. Confirm that all contributors have granted the rights needed for the live stream and any archive.
- Use YouTube Audio Library tracks. YouTube recommends its Audio Library as a source of copyright-safe music; check the applicable terms for the particular track and planned use.
- Check a third-party license against the exact use. Verify territories, live transmission, repeated playback, monetization, archiving, and Content ID handling rather than relying on a general statement that a track is “licensed.”
- Do not assume Creator Music is suitable for a live stream. YouTube’s cited revenue-sharing track terms say videos using those tracks cannot be live streams. Check the current terms for the specific track before relying on it.
