Yes. Chrome is available on Android phones and tablets running Android 10 or later, and Google’s iPhone and iPad setup instructions list iOS 18 or later. You can install it from your device’s app store; signing in to a Google Account is optional for basic browsing.
Is Chrome compatible with your phone or tablet?
- Android: Google lists Android 10 and later. Check Google’s Android download and installation instructions.
- iPhone and iPad: Google’s setup page lists iOS 18 and later. Check Google’s iPhone and iPad setup instructions.
These are the requirements stated on Google’s support pages; app availability can also depend on your device and region. If you cannot install Chrome, check the App Store or Google Play listing for your device and update its operating system if an update is available.
How to install Chrome
On Android
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Search for “Chrome” and tap Install.
- When installation finishes, tap Open.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open the App Store.
- Search for “Chrome” and tap Get.
- Follow any on-screen prompts, then open Chrome.
Google says Chrome can be downloaded and installed at no charge: Download and install Google Chrome.
Can Chrome replace Safari or your Android browser?
On iPhone or iPad, you can choose Chrome as the default browser if the device runs iOS 14 or later. This is a separate requirement from Google’s iOS 18 threshold on its setup page: the default-browser requirement does not establish the minimum iOS version for installing or using the current Chrome app.

- In Chrome, tap More → Settings → Default Browser → Go to Settings.
- In the device settings, select Chrome as the default browser app.
If the default-browser option is missing, Google advises updating Chrome. See Google’s instructions for making Chrome the default browser. On Android, whether Chrome is already the default or can be changed depends on the device’s settings.
Do you need a Google Account?
No. You can use Chrome without signing in. Signing in with a Google Account lets you use Chrome data such as bookmarks and passwords on other devices where you sign in; when you are signed out, saved items stay on that device. Details are in Google’s explanation of Chrome sign-in.
