Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsShort answer: You cannot install Roku’s official mobile remote app as a normal Windows 11 application. Roku’s current installation instructions list the app for iOS 11.0 or later and Android 5.0 or later; they do not provide a Windows 11 download or Microsoft Store version.
On a Windows 11 PC, you can still use Roku in two different ways: open TheRokuChannel.com in a browser to watch Roku Channel content, or mirror the entire Windows screen to a compatible Roku device with Win + K. Neither option is the same as installing the Roku phone remote on Windows.
What you can and cannot install on Windows 11
| What you want to do | Windows 11 option | What it actually does |
|---|---|---|
| Use the normal Roku remote | No official Windows 11 app documented by Roku | Roku’s official remote-app instructions cover iOS and Android |
| Watch Roku content | Use a browser at TheRokuChannel.com | Streams Roku Channel programming on the PC |
| Show the PC on a Roku TV | Use Windows wireless display with Win + K | Duplicates the Windows screen on the Roku display |
| Browse the internet on the Roku itself | Not supported as a general Roku feature | Roku devices stream internet video and music but do not provide a normal web browser |
Option 1: Watch The Roku Channel on your PC
If your goal is to watch free Roku content on the computer, open a browser such as Microsoft Edge or Chrome and go to TheRokuChannel.com. Roku says the web service includes 500+ live channels, Roku Originals, free television shows, and movies, according to its Roku Channel support page.
- Open Edge or another supported web browser on Windows 11.
- Enter TheRokuChannel.com in the address bar.
- Sign in if the site requests it, or browse the available content.
- Select a live channel, show, or movie to start playback.
The Roku Channel is available on the web in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, according to Roku’s support page. Availability and individual titles can vary by location.

This website is a streaming service, not a Windows version of the Roku remote. It will not give you a Roku-style control pad for browsing your Roku TV’s Home screen, opening installed Roku channels, or controlling playback on the Roku device.
Option 2: Mirror Windows 11 to a Roku
To display a browser, video, presentation, or other Windows content on your Roku TV or Roku player, use screen mirroring. This copies the whole PC display, including menus, buttons, notifications, and other visible Windows elements. You continue to control playback from the PC keyboard and mouse.
Connect Windows 11 to Roku
- Turn on the Roku TV or Roku player and make sure it is ready to receive the connection.
- On the Windows 11 keyboard, press Win + K.
- In Quick Settings, select Connect to a wireless display.
- Choose your Roku device from the list of available wireless displays.
- Look at the Roku screen and approve the request.
The Roku prompt may offer four choices:
- Allow: permits the current screen-mirroring session.
- Always allow: permits the device and adds it to the allowed list.
- Block: rejects the current connection attempt.
- Always block: rejects future attempts from that device without asking again.
For a one-time connection, choose Allow. Choose Always allow only if you trust that Windows PC and expect to use it with the Roku repeatedly. See Roku’s screen-mirroring instructions for the documented steps and prompt options.
Screen mirroring is not casting
These terms are often mixed together, but the distinction matters. Roku describes casting as content-specific playback from supported mobile apps such as YouTube or Netflix. The matching app is involved on both the sending device and the Roku device, as described in Roku’s casting and screen-mirroring information.

The documented Windows 11 procedure is different: it is screen mirroring. Windows sends the complete display to Roku. It does not launch a Roku channel directly on the Roku, and it does not turn the PC into the official Roku mobile remote.
For example, if you open a video in Edge and mirror the screen, Edge remains open on Windows and the Roku shows a copy of that screen. Closing the browser or stopping the Windows connection ends the mirrored playback.
Check whether your Roku supports mirroring
Most current-generation Roku players and Roku TV models support screen mirroring, but there are exceptions. To identify your device, open:
Settings > System > About
Note the model number and compare it with Roku’s screen-mirroring compatibility information. Roku specifically lists these exceptions:

What to do when the Roku does not appear
If you press Win + K and the Roku is not listed, the official connection procedure cannot continue. Possible causes include an unsupported Roku model or a problem with Windows’ wireless-display connection. Roku directs Windows connection problems to Microsoft support and does not provide a Roku command-line repair for this situation.
Start by checking the model at Settings > System > About on the Roku. If the model is supported but still absent from Windows’ wireless-display list, the issue is on the Windows wireless-display side or with the connection environment rather than a missing Roku desktop app.
What to do when Roku rejects the connection
If you select Block, the current attempt is rejected. If you select Always block, later attempts from that device are rejected without another approval prompt. Roku’s referenced documentation explains the choices but does not provide a separate removal procedure for a device that has been permanently blocked.
If you are still at the prompt and want the connection to proceed, use Allow or Always allow, depending on whether you want a temporary or recurring permission.

Can Windows 11 replace the Roku remote?
Not through Roku’s officially documented Windows path. Roku’s mobile app includes remote-control features and private listening, but Roku identifies that app as an iOS and Android application in its mobile app instructions. Windows screen mirroring does not provide those mobile-app functions.
If you need a conventional Roku remote, use a compatible physical Roku remote or the official mobile app on an iOS or Android device. If you only have the Windows 11 PC, the practical choices are The Roku Channel in a browser or screen mirroring to a supported Roku.

Some instructions claim that you can install the normal Roku phone remote from the Microsoft Store. That claim is not supported by Roku’s current app-installation documentation. Roku lists iOS and Android for the official mobile app and documents Win + K screen mirroring as the Windows 11 route.
A third-party application may exist, but it would not be Roku’s documented official Windows remote solution. Avoid entering your Roku account credentials into an unverified app simply because it uses Roku branding.
