Yes. Camtasia lets you edit audio on its timeline, including audio in a video project. For ordinary clip edits, work in Camtasia; for transcript-based edits, TechSmith also documents an optional workflow with Audiate that can sync changes back to the Camtasia timeline. Some features depend on your plan, so check your current entitlements before relying on a specific tool.
What audio edits can you make in Camtasia?
Camtasia supports audio editing directly on the project timeline. Select the audio clip and use the controls available in your version to make the changes you need. TechSmith notes that controls and labels can differ by version and platform, so the exact steps may not match across installations. See Camtasia’s audio features.
TechSmith also lists automatic adjustment of background music or sound-effects volume and AI background-noise removal among Camtasia’s audio features. Availability can depend on the current plan; consult the current plan comparison and your account’s entitlements.

Audiate is an optional companion workflow for editing audio through its transcript. It is useful when you want to locate spoken words or mistakes, address filler words and pauses, apply audio effects, or make precise edits in waveform view. These are Audiate capabilities, not a guarantee that every operation is included in every Camtasia-only plan.

- Choose the audio clip on the Camtasia timeline.
- Open it in Audiate: choose Edit in Audiate from the clip properties or context menu. The precise menu location may vary.
- Edit the audio in Audiate’s transcript or waveform workflow.
- Sync the changes back to the linked media on the Camtasia timeline.

Can Camtasia remove background noise?
Noise removal is best suited to subtle, consistent sounds. TechSmith gives fans, static, and humming as examples that may respond well. Irregular sounds such as construction noise, a door closing, or traffic may not be removed effectively. Can you extract and export audio from a video?
Yes. Camtasia’s documented workflow separates the audio and video on the timeline, then exports the audio track. TechSmith names MP3 and WAV as example output formats. Follow its audio extraction guide for the applicable steps in your version.
