Google’s current Gmail documentation describes Gemini as able to summarize email, draft messages and suggest replies—not send Gmail messages for you. A draft or suggested reply is not a sent email: review it and use Gmail’s Send control yourself. For work or school accounts using Gemini Connected Apps, Google explicitly says Gemini cannot delete Gmail emails. Personal-account guidance reviewed does not list Gmail deletion as a supported action either. These capabilities and availability can change, so check the settings and features available to your account.
Can Gemini send a Gmail message for you?
Google describes Gemini in Gmail as a writing and assistance feature: it can help draft a new message, refine text, suggest a reply or summarize email. The feature descriptions do not list sending a message as an action Gemini performs. See Google’s Gmail feature overview.
That distinction matters: a suggested reply is text you can choose to use, and a draft is a message prepared for review. Neither is the same as a sent message. Review the text and send it through Gmail yourself.
Can Gemini delete Gmail messages?
Work or school accounts
For Gemini Connected Apps used with a work or school Google Account, Google explicitly lists deleting Gmail messages as unsupported. Its help page says: “Gemini Apps cannot: Create an email draft or delete emails in Gmail.” This statement applies to Connected Apps for work or school accounts; it should not be generalized to every Gemini feature or account type. Personal accounts
Google’s personal-account Connected Apps instructions do not list deleting Gmail messages as a supported action. That is what the reviewed documentation establishes; it is not a guarantee about every possible integration or future product change. The instructions explain how to connect or disconnect apps and note that available apps can vary by device, country and Gemini app. See Google’s Connected Apps instructions and its Connected Apps availability and requirements table.
Does Gemini ask before sending or deleting?
The official pages describe permission to connect an app, but they do not establish that every supported action has a separate approval prompt. They also do not establish that Gemini silently performs sending or deleting. Do not treat a connection permission as proof of approval for each individual action—or assume a prompt will always appear. For the Gmail actions covered here, Google’s feature descriptions do not list sending, and work or school Connected Apps explicitly do not support deletion.

What affects the features you see?
Gemini features built into Gmail and Gemini Connected Apps are different ways of interacting with Google services. What is available depends on account type and, for work or school accounts, Workspace eligibility and administrator controls. Google also notes variation by plan, device, language and location; some Gmail features for unpaid personal accounts are limited to the United States, while certain eligible Google AI or Workspace plans have broader availability. Check Google’s Gmail feature availability information for the applicable feature and account.
Connected Apps also depend on settings. For personal accounts, Google says users must be signed in, and app availability depends in part on Keep Activity and platform. With Keep Activity off, Connected Apps are unavailable on Gemini web and iOS, while Android retains a limited group of apps. For work or school accounts, Connected Apps require a qualifying Workspace edition and Keep Activity, and an administrator can control access. How to check or disconnect a personal Connected App
- Sign in to Gemini and open the Connected Apps settings described in Google’s setup instructions.
- Check whether the app is connected and review the on-screen connection instructions. Google says an unconnected app may be connected or Gemini may ask permission to connect it.
- Disconnect the app in settings if you do not want Gemini to use that connection. Disconnecting does not erase Gemini Apps Activity, and an app may retain data Gemini already shared with it under that app’s own policies. See Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub.
For a work or school account, your organization’s administrator may manage access, so personal-account settings may not be available to you.

- To send: review any Gemini-generated draft or reply, then use Gmail’s Send control.
- To delete: use Gmail’s own message controls; Gemini’s documented work or school Connected Apps cannot delete messages.
- If a feature is missing or a request cannot be completed, check the account, app connection, Keep Activity setting and—on a managed account—the administrator’s controls.
