FieldAware describes dispatcher-facing technician location checks using location technology on mobile devices, along with map views and a location “ping” feature. It also lets office users follow work-order statuses such as en route, on site, and finished. The public product information does not establish a universal GPS refresh interval, so it does not support a promise of continuous or precisely real-time tracking.
What FieldAware says dispatchers can see
FieldAware’s dispatch and scheduling page describes using a map and a “ping” feature to check a technician’s location through location-based technology available on mobile devices. The page characterizes the feature as a way to check another party’s location online; it does not specify how often the location updates.
Separately, FieldAware’s work-order information describes map integration and color-coded schedule-board alerts that show whether a field worker is en route, on site, or finished. These are useful job-progress signals, but a status change is not the same as a continuously refreshed GPS position.
Does it provide continuous or real-time GPS tracking?
The available public descriptions establish location visibility and a ping-based location check, but they do not state a universal refresh cadence or confirm continuous background tracking for every account. “Real-time” visibility language should therefore not be read as a guaranteed, uninterrupted live map. Update behavior may depend on the customer’s configuration and device setup; confirm the expected cadence with FieldAware for the specific account.

What technicians see in the mobile app
FieldAware describes its mobile app as an offline-enabled app for field technicians and office teams. Its app materials establish a mobile work workflow, but do not provide a complete current list of supported devices, operating-system versions, or location-permission requirements. See the FieldAware mobile app page for the vendor’s overview.
A FieldAware Help Center article about the iOS app says users can view jobs and quotes assigned to them, not other technicians’ assigned jobs. That describes an individual user’s job view; it does not fully define which dispatcher or administrator roles can see location across accounts. The help article was published December 28, 2023: Downloading and signing into the FieldAware iOS app.

Location, job status, and timekeeping are different records
- Location: Dispatcher-facing map and ping functionality uses mobile-device location technology, according to FieldAware’s dispatch description.
- Job status: Work-order visibility includes stages such as en route, on site, and finished. These indicate work progress, not a location-refresh frequency.
- Timekeeping: FieldAware describes a separate mobile-app clock-in and clock-out capability on its time-tracking page. Time records should not be treated as a location history.
Privacy and access details to confirm
GPS Insight’s privacy policy, which covers FieldAware and its brands, says the company may collect location information from telematics units and mobile-device signals to support location-dependent product features. This broad policy does not establish that every FieldAware customer uses vehicle-tracking hardware, nor does it state a FieldAware-specific location retention period. Read the GPS Insight privacy policy and ask the vendor or account administrator how the feature is configured for your organization.
Before relying on the feature, confirm these account-specific details:
