Yes—some Cricket phones can be used with another carrier, but the phone must first be unlocked and the new carrier must confirm that the exact model is compatible. Neither an unlock nor a general compatibility result guarantees every service, feature, or 5G access.
Two checks determine whether a Cricket phone will work elsewhere
Think of switching as two separate gates: Cricket must remove its network lock, and the carrier you want to join must accept and support the device.

A phone can pass one check and fail the other. An unlocked device may still be incompatible, while a compatible model may remain unusable on another network until it is unlocked.
Cricket’s current unlock requirements
Cricket’s device unlock policy, revised July 1, 2026, says it will unlock a device on request when all general requirements are met:

- It was designed for use on and is locked to Cricket’s network.
- It has not been reported lost or stolen.
- It is not associated with a fraudulent account.
Cricket states: “The device you want to unlock has been active for at least 365 days of paid service on that device.” This is a policy eligibility period, not a general statistic or a guarantee that every request will be approved.
Limited deployed-military exception
Cricket describes an exception for active deployed military personnel who cannot meet the 365-day service requirement. It applies to one device and still requires the other eligibility conditions and acceptable deployment verification. Cricket directs customers to contact Support by phone or chat, or visit a Cricket store, to request it.

How to request an unlock
- Check the phone’s service history and confirm it meets the policy conditions.
- Contact Cricket Support by phone or chat, or visit a Cricket store, and request an unlock.
- If seeking the deployed-military exception, ask Cricket about its required verification and provide acceptable documentation.
Cricket says it may deny requests it concludes could enable abuse, fraud, or other unlawful conduct, and reserves the right to change its policy without advance notice. Confirm the current terms with Cricket’s official policy before relying on them. Its BYOD FAQ also says the current provider can confirm whether a device is unlocked or when it may become eligible. Check compatibility with the carrier you want
Once the phone is unlocked—or while you are checking whether it can be unlocked—ask the destination carrier to check the exact model. Find the phone’s model and IMEI; the carrier may require the IMEI for its acceptance check. Do not assume that compatibility with Cricket, or a successful unlock, proves compatibility with another carrier.

Networks differ in cellular technology and frequency bands, so acceptance can depend on the specific model. A device may be accepted for basic service without supporting every feature you expect. Ask the carrier about voice, messaging, data, and any model-specific services you rely on. 5G access is a separate question: Cricket cautions that not all 5G phones from other carriers will get 5G service on Cricket. That is Cricket-specific guidance, not a statement of another carrier’s policy.
Cricket also warns that its compatibility checker may not cover every device and that it cannot guarantee performance for devices it did not sell. Those caveats concern Cricket’s own network and checker; for a different carrier, use that carrier’s checker and confirm the result with it.

Practical checklist before switching
- Identify the exact phone. Find its model and IMEI in the device settings or on the handset or packaging. The destination carrier may ask for the IMEI.
- Confirm its lock status. Ask Cricket whether it is unlocked. If it is locked, compare its history with Cricket’s current policy requirements.
- Request an unlock if eligible. Use Cricket’s stated support channels; do not assume the request will be immediate or approved outside the published criteria.
- Check the destination carrier’s compatibility tool. Enter the model or IMEI and ask about the specific services you need, including 5G if relevant.
- Confirm activation options. SIM and eSIM availability and activation steps depend on the phone and the carrier. Cricket says its own BYOD activation can use a physical SIM or eSIM; that does not establish another carrier’s activation process.
What an unlock does—and does not—mean
Unlocking removes Cricket’s carrier restriction; it does not change the phone’s hardware, supported bands, or the destination carrier’s acceptance rules. If the carrier says the model is incompatible or lacks a needed feature, an unlock will not fix that limitation. The decisive answer is therefore specific to the phone and the network you plan to use, not to Cricket phones as a category.
