No—not as a finished video or image generated directly in Claude chat. Anthropic describes Claude’s chat output as text-based and says its models do not generate images or videos. Claude can analyze images you upload, help write code for procedural animations, and work alongside external creative apps such as Adobe Premiere. Those are different from Claude rendering a finished video file.
What Claude can and cannot generate
| Task | What Claude does | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Generate an image in chat | Does not provide native image output, according to Anthropic’s Help Center. | You can ask Claude to discuss or analyze an image, but not to create and return an image as its output. Anthropic Help Center |
| Analyze an uploaded image | Can work with images that you upload. | Image understanding is an input capability, not image generation. Anthropic Help Center |
| Generate a video in chat | Anthropic says Claude models do not generate videos. | Claude does not return a finished video file as native chat output. Anthropic, “Progress on our Child Safety Commitments,” May 2025 |
| Help create procedural animation | Can write reusable code for animation workflows. | The code can support animation in a compatible environment; it is not itself a rendered animation from chat. Anthropic, “Claude for Creative Work,” April 28, 2026 |
| Work with video tools | Can work alongside external Creative Cloud apps, including Premiere, through an Adobe connector. | This is a connected-app workflow, not evidence that Claude itself renders the finished video. Anthropic, “Claude for Creative Work,” April 28, 2026 |
Can Claude make animations?
Claude can help you create procedural animations by writing code that can be reused and modified. You would use that code in a compatible environment to produce or adjust an animation. Anthropic describes code assistance, not a built-in chat feature that returns a rendered animation file. The tools and steps needed to run the code depend on the workflow you choose.
Can Claude Design create a video?
Anthropic’s announcement for Claude Design describes code-powered prototypes that can involve video. That supports using Claude Design for video-related prototyping, but the announcement does not establish it as a general-purpose video generator or say that it exports finished videos. A prototype involving video should not be treated as a completed video file. Anthropic, “Introducing Claude Design by Anthropic Labs,” April 17, 2026
How to use Claude for video-related work
- For feedback on existing visuals: Upload an image and ask Claude to analyze it; this does not create a new image.
- For procedural animation: Ask Claude to write or revise animation code, then use it in a compatible environment.
- For editing with Creative Cloud: Use the Adobe connector workflow to work alongside applications such as Premiere. The video work happens with the external creative software, rather than through native video rendering in Claude chat.
- For a video-related prototype: Claude Design may support code-powered prototypes involving video, but Anthropic’s announcement does not specify a finished-video export.
What Anthropic says about media output
Anthropic’s Help Center answer to “Can Claude produce images?” says Claude is “limited to text-based output via the chat” and notes that users can upload images for Claude to work with. Separately, Anthropic’s May 2025 child-safety report says: “Currently, Claude models generate text-based interactions and do not generate images or videos.” These statements distinguish analyzing visual input and assisting with external tools from generating media as Claude’s own output.
