Yes. An Android phone can work as a Bluetooth keyboard if an app makes it act as a Bluetooth Human Interface Device (HID) keyboard and the Mac, tablet, or TV accepts Bluetooth keyboard input. The phone sends keystrokes; the other device receives them. Compatibility depends on the phone, app, and specific host, so it is not guaranteed for every combination.
How phone-as-keyboard pairing works
A purpose-built Android app exposes the phone as a Bluetooth HID peripheral. The target Mac, tablet, or TV then pairs with it as it would with a keyboard. Depending on the app, you may start discovery on the phone or make the phone discoverable and start pairing from the host.
After connection, the app sends keyboard input over Bluetooth. The app publishers describe this approach as not requiring helper software on the host, but key layouts, modifiers, shortcuts, and navigation keys may behave differently across operating systems.
How to set it up
- Install a Bluetooth HID app whose requirements fit your Android phone, then enable Bluetooth and grant the Bluetooth permissions it requests.
- Open the app and select its keyboard mode. Follow its instructions to advertise the phone or scan for the host; pairing direction varies by app.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the Mac, tablet, or TV and select the phone or app when it appears. Accept any pairing request shown on either device.
- Test typing and important keys in the app or on the host. Check modifier keys and the character layout before relying on it for shortcuts or longer work.

Phone manufacturers and Android versions can differ in how they expose Bluetooth HID peripheral functions. Check the chosen app’s current requirements and reports for your exact phone rather than assuming that support on one Android device guarantees support on another.
What to check for each destination
Mac
App publishers list Mac or macOS as a target. Pair through the Mac’s Bluetooth settings, then check the keyboard layout and modifier-key behavior with the apps or shortcuts you intend to use.

Tablet
The tablet must accept external Bluetooth keyboard input. Google’s instructions for connecting a physical keyboard to an Android tablet are at Android Help: Connect a physical keyboard to your Android device. They describe the tablet receiving a keyboard; they do not establish that every Android phone can act as a Bluetooth HID peripheral. Google’s documented path is Settings → Connected devices → Pair new device, then select the keyboard. Some physical-keyboard, layout, shortcut, and modifier options apply only on Android 14 and newer.
Smart TV or streaming device
Some app publishers list Android TV and other smart TVs, but the specific TV must support Bluetooth keyboard input. AirMouse also says the target TV or streaming device needs Bluetooth support. A TV’s Bluetooth support alone does not prove that it accepts keyboard input or that every key will work.

If pairing fails
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on both devices and that the host supports Bluetooth keyboard input.
- Check that the app has its requested permissions and is actively advertising or scanning as its instructions require.
- Start pairing from the side specified by the app; some flows require the host to find a discoverable phone.
- Remove an old pairing on both devices and try again if either still shows a stale bond.
These are practical checks based on the documented app pairing flows, not a universal fix; behavior can vary by phone, app, and host.

For sustained typing, a dedicated Bluetooth keyboard is a straightforward alternative. Logitech documents pairing its K480 with Android devices running Android 3.2 and later: select the keyboard in Bluetooth settings and enter the displayed PIN.
