Yes, you can stream prerecorded meditation videos without OBS, but a YouTube playlist by itself cannot become a live stream. You need an encoder or equivalent service to play the videos and send a live feed to YouTube. OBS is one option; a cloud service or dedicated hardware encoder can do the job instead.
Why a playlist cannot replace an encoder
A regular playlist on your YouTube channel organizes uploaded videos for viewers to watch on demand. It does not send those videos to YouTube Live. YouTube’s guidance puts it plainly: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” The encoder connects to YouTube using the Live server URL and a stream key. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the workflow and lists software, cloud, and hardware options.
So the practical setup is: choose the meditation videos, have an encoder or service play them in sequence, and send that resulting feed to YouTube Live. OBS is not mandatory, but something must perform the encoder’s role.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDo not confuse a channel playlist with an HLS media playlist
You may see “playlist” in YouTube’s technical documentation for HLS ingestion. There, a media playlist is part of the encoder-to-YouTube delivery protocol: it orders the media segments that make up a live feed. It is not your channel’s ordinary uploaded-video playlist. YouTube’s HLS documentation is aimed at encoder vendors, not a way to broadcast a channel playlist directly.

Choose how to play and send the meditation videos
The right option depends mainly on whether you want to keep a local computer running, how much scheduling or automation you need, and whether you prefer a service or dedicated equipment.
| Approach | How it works | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo cloud service | Upload recordings or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and start the stream. The cloud service loops the uploaded videos. | A creator who wants an always-on YouTube stream without leaving a computer running at home. | It is a paid service after its first free day; see current plans. |
| OBS or another local software encoder | Play or assemble the media on a computer and send the encoded feed to YouTube. | A creator who wants local control and can keep a suitable computer and stable upload connection available. | The computer and streaming process must remain running. OBS does not provide streaming servers of its own. OBS is free, open source, and may be used commercially, according to the OBS Project Help Portal. |
| Gyre cloud service | A cloud-based tool listed by YouTube for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos. | A creator who wants continuous playback without dedicating a PC to the stream. | Pricing, limits, and current partner terms are not stated in YouTube’s encoder guide; check the provider’s current terms before choosing. |
| AJA HELO Plus hardware encoder | A standalone encoder whose PlayToStream feature can schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. | A creator who prefers dedicated hardware over a local PC or cloud service. | It is specialized equipment that may be more than a simple meditation channel needs; YouTube’s guide does not establish current availability or price. |
YouTube identifies OBS as open-source software, Gyre as a cloud option, and AJA HELO Plus as a standalone encoder in its encoder directory. Its verified encoders are not made by YouTube, and the platform advises creators to assess which option suits their use.

Set up an encoder-based YouTube Live stream
- Enable live streaming. If this is your first time streaming, YouTube says enablement may take up to 24 hours. Once enabled, streams can go live instantly. Check the current steps and eligibility details in YouTube’s live-streaming guide.
- Prepare and queue the recordings. Select the videos you want to play and set their order or schedule in your chosen encoder or service. A channel playlist alone will not supply the live feed.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Follow YouTube’s current encoder workflow to create or select the broadcast, then copy its Live server URL and stream key into the encoder or service.
- Keep the stream key private. It identifies the stream to YouTube. Do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Start the encoder and confirm the incoming feed. Check YouTube Studio for the stream’s incoming video and audio before you begin the public broadcast. Follow the on-screen status and resolve any encoder or connection warnings before relying on unattended playback.
Check rights and suitability before streaming meditation content
Make sure you have the rights to every video, music track, and ambient recording in the stream. A meditation recording can include separately licensed music, nature sounds, artwork, or narration; permission for one element does not necessarily cover the others. The rights for any particular library or track cannot be assumed. Review YouTube’s current guidance and the terms attached to each asset before broadcasting.
Also distinguish permission to use material from eligibility for monetization. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not establish that a particular meditation stream or reused recording qualifies for monetization. Do not treat the ability to send a feed as approval of its copyright status or monetization.
