No—not in the documented shadPS4 workflow. shadPS4 is an early PlayStation 4 emulator for Windows, Linux, and macOS, not a PS5 emulator. Its guide describes loading PS4 game dumps, not playing retail PS5 discs or files. If you meant a retail PS4 disc, a PS5 console with a disc drive can play many PS4 games directly.
Can a PS5 emulator play retail PS5 games?
The official shadPS4 documentation does not support saying that a PS5 emulator can play retail PS5 games. shadPS4 targets PS4 software, and its documented PC workflow uses game dumps rather than a retail disc. The guide does not establish direct playback of retail discs or support for PS5 game files. shadPS4 project README and Quick Start guide describe a PS4 emulator and its file workflow.

There is also no universal “PS5 emulator file pack” established by these sources. The files below are for the documented shadPS4 PS4 workflow, not for running retail PS5 games.
What files does the documented shadPS4 workflow need?
The guide’s core input is a dump made from your own PS4 copy. Base-game content, updates, and DLC are handled separately; some additional files are optional or may help compatibility.

| File or content | How the guide uses it | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| PS4 base-game dump | Place it in the game installation directory in a folder named with the game’s serial, in the form CUSAxxxxx, or add the folder as a game path. |
Core game input for this workflow. |
| Game update dump | Install separately in a folder named CUSAxxxxx-patch in the game installation directory. |
Optional; for a game update. |
| DLC dump | Place it in the additional-content directory, using a folder name matching the game folder. | Optional; for additional content. |
| PS4 firmware modules | Some supported modules can be placed in shadPS4’s sys_modules folder. The guide explains that they may help when a module has not yet been reimplemented. |
Not stated as universally required; compatibility use. |
| Trophy key and fonts | The Quick Start has separate optional steps for trophy support and fonts used by some games. | Optional; not universal game-boot requirements. |
| Retail PS5 game files | Not part of the documented shadPS4 workflow. | Not established by the cited project documentation. |
The project documentation says game, update, and DLC content should be dumped from your own copy. Its README also says supported modules must come from a legally owned PS4 console. Those instructions are specific to the project documentation; copyright rules can vary by jurisdiction.
How do you add a PS4 dump to shadPS4?
- Make a dump from your own PS4 copy. The Quick Start describes using dumped game content; it does not document retail-disc playback in the emulator.
- Organize the base game. Put the dump in the game-install directory using a folder named for its serial, such as
CUSAxxxxx, or add the directory containing it as a game path. - Install updates separately. If you have an update dump, use the
CUSAxxxxx-patchfolder convention and copy it to the game-install directory as the guide describes. - Add DLC separately if applicable. Put dumped DLC in the additional-content directory, in a folder matching the game folder.
- Add only relevant optional files. Supported PS4 firmware modules may improve compatibility; trophy support and fonts have their own optional setup steps.
For the precise current folder locations and setup steps, consult the official shadPS4 Quick Start. The project describes the emulator as early in development and warns that many games do not work and that working games can still have emulation issues, so compatibility is game-specific.

What if you want to play a retail PS4 disc?
A PS5 console is a separate option from PC emulation. Sony says the overwhelming majority of its 4,000+ PS4 games are playable on PS5 consoles, while noting exceptions and possible errors or unavailable functionality. For disc play, insert a compatible PS4 disc into a PS5 model with a disc drive; keep the disc inserted while playing. A PS4 disc cannot be used with PS5 Digital Edition. See Sony’s PS5 backward-compatibility guidance.
