Possibly, but the available manufacturer information does not establish that a genuine Makita 18V battery will damage a Mellif tool—or that every cross-brand pairing is safe. Mellif lists some specific tools as compatible with Makita 18V batteries. That is Mellif’s compatibility claim, not Makita approval or independent safety validation. Check the exact tool model and its manual, especially for guidance on battery protection and charging.
What the manufacturers say about compatibility
Mellif’s UK collection lists specific products as compatible with Makita 18V batteries, including a multitool, buffer polisher, mini air pump and 100W hot glue gun. Its FAQ also says some products work with well-known brands’ 18V batteries, including Makita. These are Mellif statements, and the collection can change; check the exact product listing before relying on compatibility. Mellif’s Makita 18V-compatible collection and Mellif’s FAQ.
Makita’s compatibility guidance is scoped to its own tools and batteries. It says LXT batteries are compatible within the LXT platform; its BL1830B page specifies compatibility with Makita 18V tools bearing the Star Symbol and/or a yellow battery receiver. That is not a statement that Makita has approved a Mellif tool. Makita battery FAQ and Makita BL1830B product page.
What could cause a problem?
Low-voltage protection
A tool that continues drawing power after a battery is depleted can raise an over-discharge concern. The sources available do not establish the low-voltage protection circuitry in every Mellif tool, or confirm how a specific Mellif tool behaves with a Makita pack. Mellif’s listing for its own 18V 4.0Ah replacement battery claims several protections and automatic shutoff below 14.4V; that specification applies to that Mellif battery listing, not to a Makita battery or every Mellif tool. The listing does not establish the tool’s cutoff behavior. Mellif 18V 4.0Ah battery listing.

Charging with the wrong charger
Do not assume that a Mellif charger can charge a Makita battery. Mellif says the charger described on its battery listing is compatible only with Mellif 18V batteries and cannot charge original Makita batteries. Use a charger expressly specified for the exact battery.
Battery condition and warranty terms
Makita warns that non-genuine or altered batteries used in Makita products may defeat electronic communication among the battery, charger and tool. It lists possible battery rupture, fire damage, unknown performance, loss of Makita tool and charger warranty, and loss of UL/CSA approval. Those warnings address non-genuine or altered packs in Makita’s ecosystem; they do not directly test a genuine, unmodified Makita battery in a Mellif tool. Check the applicable warranty and safety terms for both products. Makita’s battery FAQ.

Check these details before using a Makita battery
- Identify the exact Mellif model. Find its product page and manual. Confirm that the specific model—not merely the brand or tool category—is listed for Makita 18V batteries.
- Confirm the battery type and condition. Check that it is the battery type named by the tool documentation and that it is genuine, unmodified and undamaged.
- Look for protection guidance. Check the manual or ask Mellif whether that model protects against over-discharge when used with a Makita pack. A protection claim for Mellif’s replacement battery does not answer this for the tool.
- Keep charging separate unless explicitly approved. Use only a charger documented as suitable for that exact battery; Mellif says the charger in its cited listing cannot charge original Makita batteries.
- Resolve uncertainty with model-specific guidance. If the manual is silent, ask Mellif for written confirmation covering the precise tool and battery models. Do not test the combination by running the battery until the tool stops, modifying contacts or leaving the battery installed unattended.
What can be concluded
The available information supports neither a categorical claim that a Makita battery will damage a Mellif tool nor a guarantee that every Mellif tool-and-battery pairing is safe. Mellif claims compatibility for listed products, but the model-specific protection behavior and independent safety testing are not established here. The practical answer depends on the exact tool, battery and their documentation.
