Riot’s public guidance does not confirm that a VALORANT hardware ban follows a graphics card to its next owner. It also does not establish that replacing a GPU will clear a device restriction. Riot does not publicly identify GPU serial numbers or other specific component identifiers as the basis for enforcement in the sources cited here, so neither outcome can be promised.
What Riot’s public guidance says—and what it doesn’t
Riot describes Vanguard as security software that includes a client and a kernel-mode driver. It says unexpected interactions with the Vanguard client or driver on a device may affect the ability to play. That describes Vanguard’s role and possible device interactions; it does not disclose which device identifiers Riot uses for enforcement. (Riot’s Vanguard overview, published June 2, 2026.)
Riot’s VALORANT penalties and bans FAQ, also published June 2, 2026, explains player penalties and notes that details of its detection systems are limited. It does not say a GPU carries a ban to a subsequent owner. Riot’s published pages therefore do not answer whether a particular GPU is associated with an enforcement action, or whether any such association would persist after a sale.
Distinguish an account penalty from a Vanguard restriction
An account penalty concerns the player account. A Vanguard security or configuration restriction concerns whether the game can run under a device’s current conditions. Neither label, by itself, tells you that a specific graphics card has been banned or that an enforcement action transfers with that card. Riot’s public materials do not disclose enough about enforcement identifiers to make that inference.

Riot’s Vanguard system requirements discuss features such as TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, Memory Integrity (HVCI/VBS), and IOMMU that may be required depending on a PC’s configuration. Those are security requirements, not published rules about hardware-ban transfer. A requirement warning or configuration problem is not proof that a GPU—or the PC—is subject to a disciplinary hardware ban.
If you’re buying or selling a used GPU or PC
Riot’s cited public guidance cannot establish whether a used GPU is “clean,” banned, or associated with a previous owner’s account. It also does not recommend buying or replacing a GPU as a remedy for a penalty or device restriction.

- Do not treat a seller’s assurance or an online claim as confirmation of Riot’s enforcement status.
- If you encounter a VALORANT error or penalty after installing used hardware, record the exact message. A message about security settings or Vanguard operation is different from an account penalty.
- For an account-specific penalty or device restriction, contact Riot Player Support through the penalty FAQ’s support route. Riot’s public pages do not promise that a penalty will be reversed.
What to do if you’re affected
- Record or capture the exact error or penalty message and note when it appeared.
- Use Riot’s penalties and bans FAQ to find the support route for a penalty question, then contact Riot Player Support with the relevant details.
- If the message concerns a Vanguard security requirement, check the applicable system requirements for your PC configuration rather than assuming it indicates a hardware ban.
Only Riot can review an account-specific enforcement issue. Its public guidance does not establish whether a graphics card transfers a hardware ban between owners.
