Its documentation describes ONVIF, RTSP, and RTMP camera sources, live viewing and playback, and recording to S3-compatible storage. It is better suited to people prepared to configure and maintain a streaming server, database, network, and storage than to someone looking for a plug-and-play consumer camera service.
What CamOS does
CamOS is built on Ant Media Server. Its vendor documentation describes camera management, live monitoring, playback, user controls, and recording to S3-compatible object storage. AGRHUB also promotes analytics-oriented uses, but the level of analytics functionality and its availability by plan should be confirmed with the vendor. Ant Media’s CamOS guide and the AGRHUB product page are the primary product descriptions.
Ant Media describes CamOS as deployable in about 10 minutes with zero external dependencies. That is a vendor claim, not an independently measured setup time; the documented prerequisites include an Ant Media Server instance and MongoDB, as well as configured recording storage. Which cameras and streams are supported?
The current CamOS documentation names three source protocols: ONVIF, RTSP, and RTMP. It describes adding ONVIF IP cameras and configuring RTSP streams; a device or encoder providing an RTMP source may also fit the documented protocol support. Protocol support alone does not guarantee that a particular camera or NVR will work in a given installation.

Before relying on a device, check that it exposes the protocol and stream you intend to use, that its credentials are available, and that the server can reach it through the network and firewall. Confirm the stream URL and settings, including any codec constraints, against the camera and current CamOS documentation. The available product materials do not establish compatibility with particular camera models.
Where can recordings be stored?
CamOS’s current setup guide describes S3-compatible object storage and names AWS, MinIO, and Wasabi. The choice is between a managed storage service and storage you operate yourself; the documentation does not say which will be cheapest or best for a particular installation.

Estimate recording volume and retention needs before choosing. Also consider how often footage will be retrieved, how backups will work, and who will administer storage permissions. CamOS materials establish these as supported storage options, but do not provide cost calculations or current provider pricing. Consult Ant Media’s storage setup instructions.
What deployment requires
The current marketplace guide lists an Ant Media Server instance—running in standalone or cluster mode—and MongoDB as prerequisites. It then describes installing the CamOS application package, configuring S3 recording, enabling recording settings, registering an administrator, and adding sources. Exact server sizing, supported version combinations, and network security requirements should be confirmed in current vendor documentation before deployment.

- Prepare the server and database. Provide an Ant Media Server instance in standalone or cluster mode and MongoDB, as listed in the current CamOS guide.
- Install the CamOS application package. Follow the current vendor installation instructions for the server and version you plan to use.
- Configure object storage and recording. Set up the chosen S3-compatible service, then enable recording settings as directed in the guide.
- Register an administrator. Complete the documented administrator registration before adding camera sources.
- Add and verify each source. Use the appropriate ONVIF, RTSP, or RTMP setup path. Confirm connectivity and stream behavior with the actual camera or encoder in your network.
A December 29, 2023 Hackster walkthrough describes older setup details, including Ant Media Server 2.7.0 or later and deployment on cloud servers, local servers, or edge devices. Treat those version details as historical rather than as current compatibility guidance; use Ant Media’s current documentation to choose software versions.
Security and privacy responsibilities
AGRHUB and Ant Media describe private deployment and encrypted video or data flows. These are vendor statements, not an independent security audit or a guarantee of compliance. The product sources reviewed do not provide a complete encryption design, threat model, independent audit, or jurisdiction-specific compliance evidence.

Before putting cameras into service, review current security documentation and decide how you will configure authentication, restrict network access, secure storage permissions, apply updates, and enforce footage retention. A private deployment gives you control over infrastructure, but also leaves its operation and safeguards to you.

AGRHUB advertises a seven-day trial limited to five cameras and two users, with custom pricing for Pro and Enterprise. Ant Media’s marketplace index labels CamOS as a paid offering. Check AGRHUB’s current offer and confirm license terms, camera and user limits, feature availability, and renewal conditions with CamOS before purchasing. An older Hackster project from December 29, 2023 describes different free-license details, so it should not be treated as current pricing.

Who should consider CamOS?
CamOS may suit an organization or technically capable operator that wants to manage supported camera streams on infrastructure it controls and can take responsibility for the server, database, network, and recording storage. It is a less natural fit for someone who wants a camera service that works without infrastructure setup or ongoing administration.
